Manchester United Fan Dies 45 Minutes After Players Grant His Final Wish
Four members of the Manchester United squad made a visit to a lifelong supporter who had cancer just 45 minutes before he died this week.
Marcus Rashford, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Timothy Fosu-Mensah made it to Paddy Lawler’s bedside after a plea on Facebook from his granddaughter Kayleigh Lawler Carson.
The following image was posted on her social media account of the four players alongside the 73-year-old:
Kayleigh posted on Facebook asking her friends if there was any way that it could be arranged for her grandfather to meet some of the Red Devils stars.
"We asked him the other day if he would like to do anything before his time comes and he said to meet the team," read the initial post. "…And not sure how long we have left with him so I want to get this as a surprise he's a MASSIVE fan."
According to Jack de Menezes of The Independent, a cousin of United star Lingard saw the post, and the four players paid him a visit at his home in Wythenshawe, Manchester, where he was wearing the Red Devils colours and had a framed shirt above his bed.
It’s noted the players spent time at his side and signed souvenirs for the rest of the family, although Kayleigh confirmed to Sean-Paul Doran of the Sun her grandfather died less than an hour after the quartet departed.
"Top lads, all four of them," Kayleigh posted on her Facebook account after the visit, per De Menezes. "Thanks so much to everyone who helped. Sure my grandad's over the moon."
