Arian Foster Comments on Recovery from Injury, Matchup vs. Seahawks, More

Mike ChiariSep 8, 2016

Veteran Arian Foster will lead the Miami Dolphins' rushing attack Sunday when the team takes on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, and he made it clear Tuesday he doesn't intend to rest on his laurels after working his way back from injury.

The four-time Pro Bowler was cut following the 2015 season by the Houston Texans after seven years with the team. It took some time before he caught on elsewhere as he rehabbed a torn Achilles, but the Dolphins took a chance on the 30-year-old, and they were rewarded with a new starting running back.

While Foster's ability to heal up and seize the starting job was impressive, the former Tennessee standout downplayed his progress and the notion that he is nearing the twilight of his career, according to ESPN.com's James Walker

"I wasn't dead," Foster said. "I had an injury. I've bounced back before. ... You hear all the geniuses say [regression] is what's supposed to happen at 30. I feel like if you take care of your body and you train like I train, you should be able to do good things."

Foster's resume is among the NFL's best, as he has four seasons with at least 1,200 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns to his credit.

His confidence is understandable considering those accomplishments, but he'll need a vintage showing in order to have success against Seattle's stout defense in Week 1.

Per Walker, Foster is well aware of what he's up against: "They've been dominant in this league for years now. They've set the mark of what a defensive team is supposed to do. It's going to be a tough one. But it's a great team to open up with, because you know where you're at after you play them."

The biggest question mark surrounding Foster is how he'll rebound from the Achilles injury, but he was struggling even before that put him on the shelf last season with a yards-per-carry average of just 2.6 in four contests.

Foster has both Jay Ajayi and rookie Kenyan Drake breathing down his neck for opportunities to touch the ball, and if he doesn't get off to a solid start against the Seahawks, his time as Miami's starter could be short-lived.
