Jacquizz Rodgers to Buccaneers: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
Running back Jacquizz Rodgers found a new home Tuesday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him to a one-year deal ahead of Week 2.
The Buccaneers announced the deal after Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times first reported the news. Jenna Laine of ESPN.com provided the contract details and noted the team won't be forced to handle any termination pay should he eventually get released since he signed after Week 1.
This comes after the Chicago Bears cut him while trimming their roster to 53 players before the season, per Larry Mayer of the Bears' official website. He appeared in five games for Chicago in 2015 and was put on injured reserve with a broken arm.

A.J. Brown Deal Not 'Firm'
Rodgers entered the league as a fifth-round pick out of Oregon State in 2011 and played four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Bears in 2015. While he ran for more than 1,100 yards three straight seasons for the Beavers, he never established himself as a dangerous runner at the NFL level.
Rodgers' career high for rushing yards is only 362 (in 2012), and he has posted a mere 3.6 yards per carry in his career. He also only has five touchdowns on the ground in five seasons:
| 2011 | Atlanta Falcons | 16 | 57 | 205 | 1 | 21 | 188 | 1 |
| 2012 | Atlanta Falcons | 16 | 94 | 362 | 1 | 53 | 402 | 1 |
| 2013 | Atlanta Falcons | 15 | 96 | 332 | 2 | 52 | 341 | 2 |
| 2014 | Atlanta Falcons | 16 | 58 | 217 | 1 | 29 | 173 | 1 |
| 2015 | Chicago Bears | 5 | 14 | 41 | 0 | 1 | 10 | 0 |
If there is one part of Rodgers' game that stands out, it is his pass-catching abilities. He was not much of a factor for the Bears last year, but he does have two straight seasons with more than 50 catches on his resume and as many touchdowns through the air as in the rushing attack in his career.
Rodgers isn't a season-changing addition, but he does add a veteran presence to the Bucs backfield. He can also provide a change-of-pace look on passing downs as a solid option in screen situations.
What's more, the Oregon State product proved to be durable before last year's injury and missed just one game in his first four years. If he can stay healthy, he would take some of the pressure and extra carries off Doug Martin's shoulders and ideally keep the starter healthy for the rest of the year.
If Rodgers lives up to his potential as that durable pass-catcher on the Tampa Bay depth chart, he will be a valuable addition. He'll battle Charles Sims for touches at the outset.
