Arsenal Transfer News: Jack Wilshere in Palace, Bournemouth, Roma Loan Rumours
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has reportedly agreed to join AS Roma on a season-long loan deal, but Premier League outfits Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are still vying to snap up the playmaker's services.
The Giallorossi have been one of the foremost foreign teams in the running to land Wilshere on a temporary basis, and BBC Sport's David Ornstein reported major progress has been made:
However, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace can hold out hope of spoiling the party as long as nothing has been signed, and they both sit among the Premier League front-runners to acquire his talents.
Sky Sports News HQ reported as much on Wednesday, with the England international expected to leave it until the last hour to decide where he'll spend the 2016-17 campaign:
The Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel noted no fewer than 22 clubs enquired about Wilshere after it was reported he'd be made available for a season-long deal.
Roma have been mentioned as one of the high-profile foreign clubs hoping to conclude a deal for the Arsenal man, and Sky Sports News HQ reported that the Italians are striving to execute a deal:
The Mirror's John Cross spoke of the potential advantages a move to Selhurst Park would yield before noting the race to acquire Wilshere's loan loyalties is set to continue for some time:
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger appears to have lost some faith in the midfielder after he managed just two appearances for Arsenal last season following the latest in a series of recurring injuries.
Arsenal fans should prepare for a drawn-out saga on Wednesday, however, after Sky Sports reporter Bryan Swanson suggested Wilshere's move is far from simple just yet:
Any team that agrees to loan Wilshere knows the risk they're taking, considering he's struggled to piece together any consistent period at full fitness with the north Londoners.
That being said, the jostle to secure his loyalties for the season has been fierce, and Metro's Portuguese football expert Jan Hagen reported even Primeira Liga clubs were interested:
A Premier League switch presents the lowest risk for Wilshere, however, as it would keep him in the familiar environment he's grown up in as one of Arsenal's brightest prospects in recent times.
The Englishman is facing a make-or-break juncture in his Gunners career, and Palace and Bournemouth look like front-runners to provide Wilshere with a much-needed springboard in his quest to return to the first team.
