Ring Rap With Matt: Hell In A Cell, Thoughts, Previews, and Predictions!

Matthew HesterSenior Writer IOctober 4, 2009

Hello, everyone. As always, I would like to thank all of you for spending a few moments with me today.

It is once again that time of the month for another WWE PPV. This time around we get treated to another first for Vince.  We will see for the first time ever a PPV based of the match “Hell in the Cell”.

I know a PPV like this reeks of gimmick. Still there is something about it that has me a little excited. I’m not sure if it is the solid line up, or it could also be the havoc that we have seen traditionally over the years in this type of match.

Either way, this should turn out to be a pretty solid PPV. I just hope that I am not disappointed when all is said at the end of the night. That is the fun of a new idea though, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

There are a couple of matches that stand out the most for me this month. The first match that has me hooked is the triple threat match for the U.S title. All three athletes in this match are more then capable of putting on a great match.

The second match that has me thinking a little is the Punk and Undertaker bout. I am really stoked to see just how well Punk performs in this match. This could be a big indicator on just how well punk can handle the WWE’s marquee matches.

As far as the rest of the card goes; it seems like it should be a great night of wrestling over all. I am a little surprised though that the ECW title isn’t on the line. I’m not sure if it’s not being defended due to an injury or if they are just trying to mix things up a bit.

Enough of my ramblings though. Without any further delay I give you my thoughts, previews and predictions for Hell in a Cell.

Dolph Ziggler Vs. John Morrison for the IC title

This should turn out to be one of the better matches of the night. Both Ziggler and Morrison know how to put together a solid night of action. This feud to me though has lost a little steam. The problem is they haven’t given either two the time to properly promote this match.

The one big set back for both men is their inability to work the stick. Listening to either of these two trying to cut a promo is painful. It’s not all on them, but at some point these two need to kick this part of their game in gear.

Until they can improve in this area they will most likely always be fighting for titles like the IC belt.  They still have some time to work on this though. For now the IC title is perfect for both men, and this should turn out to be a solid title defense.

I like Morrison to retain on Sunday.

Kofi Kingston Vs. The Miz vs. Jack Swagger for the U.S title

I think this match could easily be the show stealer of the night. The U.S title is hot, and the guys wrestling for the belt are at the top of their game. I also think that the outcome will tell where each is headed.

For the Miz and Koffi, I think the U.S title is they best they are ever going to get. Swagger, on the other hand really doesn’t need this belt. If he did win it I’m sure he would do a super job representing the title.

I just have a funny feeling though that Swagger will be moving on to better things.  The match itself should be a solid one. I think we will see all three bring their A game on Sunday. We will also see are normal near falls and high spots in this match.

No matter who wins the match the US title will be in good hands.  I’m not sure with any certainty who will come out the victor though, I suppose in a way that is probably a good thing.  At least that leaves me something that I can be surprised about.

I pick the Miz to win the U.S title this Sunday.

Chris Jericho and the Big Show vs. Batista and Rey Mysterio

As I have said before, I am not sold with Show and Jericho as tag champs. I think they severely lack the edge that Jericho had with the Rated R Superstar. They have done a solid job as tag team champions.

I just don’t feel that they are a believable pair though. They will be going up against Batista and Rey Mysterio. Both of those guys are just coming back, and I’m sure the WWE wants to pump as much juice as possible into them.

I also think that this is probably one of the weaker matches of the night. Let’s face it Batista and the big show aren’t the best in ring workers. So that will mean it will be up to Jericho and Mysterio to make this one good.

While I have no doubts they are up to the task. I do have to doubt with the overall chemistry of these four. Once they tag in the oafs this match could get real ugly real quick. I hope I am wrong about this but I don’t think I am.

I think we are going to finally see the end of the Big show and Jericho as tag champs. I also think that they will end up going there separate ways after the rematch. How long Batista and Mysterio stay together is anyone’s guess.

I like Batista and Mysterio to win this match.

DX vs. Legacy in a Hell in the Cell

These two teams have gone on to give us a solid feud so far. I like the excitement and chemistry that has been shown so for. I see no reason why this Sunday should end up being any different. This time it will be fought in Hell in the cell match.

I am sure we will see a great effort from both teams tomorrow. I think that this feud ends this weekend though. It should be interesting to see where both teams go after this match.

I think depending on how the tag title match goes we could wind up seeing DX go after the belts.  I also think that it is time to see the DiBiase and Orton Feud heat up again. Either way, I think we have seen an end to a solid feud form these four.

I like DX to win this one

Mickie James vs. Alicia Fox for the Divas title.

I am hoping that the WWE actually gives these two ladies some time to wrestle. I like both of them as far as their work in the ring goes.  This match could turn into a fun little match when all is said and done.

I’m also a little surprised that this match even made the PPV. It’s not like the WWE has put a lot of stock into the women’s division as of late. Still it is nice to see them get a spot on a big PPV for a change.

I don’t think we will see this match go on for to long. I would be really shocked if they even gave them ten minutes. Sadly I think they made this match the popcorn match of the night. It should end up being a solid match either way.

I like Alicia Fox to become the new Diva’s champ

John Cena vs. Randy Orton round 1000 for the WWE title

I don’t think that there is anything that can be said about this match. We have seen these two wrestle way to many times. It’s like a CD that skips over and over and over again. How can they possibly show us anything different at this point?

Let’s face a few facts people. John Cena just became the heavy weight champion. There is now way he is dropping the title to Randy Orton a month later. I’m sure we will see a decent match between these two.

I would hope so considering they have wrestled each other for almost a year now. I think we will see the same thing we always see in this one. Cena will get his tail kicked in for twenty minutes, and then we will see him Hulk up and win it at the end.

Cena wins, and hopefully we see this feud finally end.

CM Punk Vs. The Undertaker

This could wind up being a really great match. At the same token it could also end up being a bad one. I’m still not 100 percent sold on Punk. I think over the last year they have done a really bad job with Punk.

This is the first time I can recall that he has looked really solid as champ. They must think highly of him some what. If they didn’t, I don’t think we would see him in a HITC match with the Undertaker.

This is one of the Undertakers signature matches. He has always done well in them and tomorrow won’t be any different. I think this is CM Punks chance to really make himself shine. I just hope that he ends up pulling his end of the bargain.

I have no doubt that this will turn into a bloody and brutal fiasco by the end of the night. Most HITC matches end up that way anyways. It will just be a matter of who puts over whom in this one. I will give Punk the benefit of the doubt and say he does a great job.

I like Punk to find some way to retain.

As always, have a great night and God bless.
