Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin told ESPN (h/t Rocky Top Insider) Garrett would play Saturday against the Volunteers, but he wasn't sure how much.
Injury-Prone Garrett Remains Aggies' Best Pass-Rusher
Garrett is one of the most talented defensive ends in college football and a potential high-impact player at the NFL level if his development continues at a steady rate. He illustrated that upside while recording 22.5 sacks during his first two seasons with the Aggies.
Injuries are starting to become a concern, though. Garrett missed a game during his freshman year after suffering an apparent concussion, and he underwent hand surgery in early 2015. However, he stated in July that he never considered sitting out to preserve his draft stock, per Chase Goodbread of NFL.com.
"I've heard it, but I'm against it," Garrett said. "I want to be one of the best that's ever come through A&M, and that would just be betraying the people I've played with and the people who have come before me, who have worked their butt off."
