Darrelle Revis, Brandon Marshall Get into Altercation at Jets Practice
New York Jets stars Brandon Marshall and Darrelle Revis took part in the annual preseason practice tradition of teammates getting into a physical altercation.
According to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini, Marshall was "jawing" at Revis throughout practice Friday and eventually "took a swing" at the cornerback after the two exchanged words.
Per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Jets head coach Todd Bowles didn't seem too concerned about two of his marquee players getting into a fight: "Love it. We're not judging a beauty pageant. ... You want guys on edge."

Cimini noted that Revis was getting the best of Marshall early in practice, but Marshall began talking after he scored a long touchdown: "After the brief scuffle, Marshall yelled a DeAndre Hopkins comment at Revis, reminding the corner of his struggles last season against the Houston receiver—a low blow. Marshall wouldn't shut up, screaming at Revis when he was on the sideline."
The game against the Houston Texas that Marshall was reportedly referencing saw Hopkins put up 118 yards and two touchdowns on just five receptions with Revis as his primary defender.
Fights during training camp and practices are nothing new in the NFL. On Wednesday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times noted there was a scuffle at the Buccaneers' practice.
Cam Newton and Josh Norman had a heated confrontation during a Carolina Panthers practice last year, yet they seemed to be OK when the games started.
After the Jets' practice ended, per the team's official Twitter account, Marshall addressed the altercation: "[Revis and I] are really close. We crossed that line. It's part of camp...It's done."
Per Eric Allen of the Jets' official website, Marshall pointed out his punch did not connect with Revis because "Dave Szott got in the way. Quincy Enunwa then carried (Marshall) 15 (yards) away."
Marshall said, "Today crossed that football line, but I can't let nobody slap me in my face," per Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. He also said that Revis "punched him first, then baited him into punching Revis back," per Hubbuch.
Per Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network, Marshall noted his reps against Revis were "competitive" and things "kind of went too far but there's a thin line between football & being a man."
Marshall added the part he feels bad about in all of this was swearing at the referee who missed a pass interference call on Revis, per Jones.
Revis declined to comment on the incident, per Mehta.
These things happen with every NFL team, but the Jets are going to be under greater scrutiny because of the locker room incident last summer between quarterback Geno Smith and linebacker IK Enemkpali.
The altercation between Marshall and Revis appears to be strictly football-related. Marshall's never been shy about calling teammates out in the past, so there is no reason to think things will change now.
So long as Revis and Marshall are able to coexist when the Jets' season begins on September 11, no one will care about a skirmish at practice in August.
