Lewis' Return Provides Patriots with Another Weapon
Lewis is trending toward adding another option to an already potent offense.
He was enjoying his finest season in the league last year before tearing his ACL, developing into a dual-threat running back who was flourishing behind quarterback Tom Brady.
Rushing for 234 yards and two touchdowns in seven games, Lewis was most influential with his receiving, catching 36 passes for 388 yards and another two touchdowns out of the backfield.
He showed a perfect blend of agility, coordination and physicality. The NFL shared one of his finest plays of 2015:
His play even had Chris Wesseling of NFL.com gushing about him: "Signed to a reserve/future contract in late December, Lewis has been the most elusive—and perhaps most exciting—back in football."
Brady has been dominant since returning from suspension largely because of the likes of Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett and Julian Edelman, but running backs LeGarrette Blount and James White have made life easier for him as well. White has taken on Lewis' role to great effect, catching 27 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 92 yards on the ground.
With Lewis back, he will give the Patriots a remarkable amount of depth in the backfield, and he will provide Brady with another dynamic weapon with which to make life miserable for opposing defenses.
