Above is a something that most Chelsea fans would love to see. The back of Andriy Shevchenko. And that is something he needs to do, not just for himself, but for Chelsea and his reputation.

But will he want to leave? He is getting paid an awful lot of money for just sitting on a bench for 90 minutes a week. The question, then, for Shevchenko to answer is: What do you prefer, the football or the money?

I fear he prefers the money.

He is now 31, so he doesn't have too long left in his career, but what happened to him? One day he was one of the most feared strikers in Europe, and an AC Milan legend. Now he's a laughingstock, a player who has lost all of his greatest attributes.

His reputation may have been damaged beyond repair. Certainly, nobody will be fighting to buy him for a huge sum like they were two or three years ago.

It's hard to believe when you look at him play now that he cost £30 million. He has to go down as one of the biggest wastes of money of all time. Especially when you consider that he's on £121,000 a week!

He joined on May 28, 2006, so i'll say he's been there for 104 weeks. This means that Chelsea have spent £12,584,000 on him, just in wages!

Add the £30 million for the transfer and he has cost them over £42 million in two years. He has only played 49 league games for them, so has cost them a staggering £869,061 every time he has played in the league.

Even worse, he has only scored nine league goals, costing them £4,731,555 per goal! And what have Chelsea won while he has been there? The FA Cup and League Cup. Hardly worth £42 million.

Shevchenko was on the course to become a proper legend of the game before his move to England. And no one could've foreseen the calamity his time here has been. In fact, especially after he scored on his debut against Liverpool in the Community Shield Final, I thought he would be superb.

But something just seems to have happened to him. He's lost what pace he had, seems to have lost the clinical finishing which made him so deadly, and has lost his reputation as a great.

The best transfer Chelsea could make this summer, in terms of value for money at least, would be to ship Sheva out. It'd be for the good of the player, the team and the EPL.

  1. Right, we sell Shevchenko, and everyone will remember that Chelsea ruined the career of one of the most feared strikers in Europe, I know that it's not true the we ruined his career! but imagine what it would be like to watch the news and see ANDRIY SHEVCHENKO the £30 million striker was sent back to AC Milan for free!?
we should let him stay for another year! I'm not a big fan of Shevchenko but I don't think that he's a bad striker! who knows what would happen, maybe he'll score 30 goals next season!

    1. that is very right, Ali. shevy is not a bad player and i still dont know why he sits on the bench, probably the coach does not like him. but i believe he will do very well next season especially when drogba leaves because drogba had a lot of attention and nobody wants to take a risk and bench drogba, and he is very good too. i remember that drogba wasnt special his first season in chelsea too. please let shevy stay one more season and see what he will do for us. he is worth all the money!

  2. i too think that........................i am big fan of sheva................still he is my fav player..................
the fact is............whenever he played a 4-4-2 with anyone he has scored.....................remember he played with pizarro in aston villa home game..............there he scored 2 goals , set up the third for alex..............and recently the home game against bolton.................with drogba................so he need somebody to play with him.......................i hope drogba leaves...............and somebody like eto'o or ibrahimovic comes and playes with sheva ..................and lampard should leave and ballack can play behind the 2 strikers in a diamond formation................this is my dream chelsea.................or maybe kaka can play wih him.....................lets pray for sheva.........................anelka should be a 3rd choice striker.......................

    1. why would you want Drogba to leave, he is better than Shevchenko

  3. English journalism is desgusting.
It constantly ruins every single quality from abroad.

You cant ruin SHEVA , he is bigger than you, and...
    he is real !!!

Your football is far from what you think.
EPL is a shame for football.
The way English football public THINKS, COMMENTS is simply strange.

SHEVA is the biggest name and football quality EVER in England.

    1. EPL is a shame for football? What about the Japanese league makes it better? Are you really
going to try and argue that?

  4. I think it is Chelsea's fault. The shift from 4-3-3 to the diamond formation made the strikers totally isolated as the team lacked creativity and possession. Sheva needs to move on to rebuild his confidence. I shall soon be writing about Sheva. My article regarding is to be posted these 2 days. Keep in touch and provide a comment if you are interested in the subject.

  5. well you are totally wrong
u know why chelsea lose and man u win by still chelsea having highly paid players??
    they didnt get a chance
see man u didnt bought ronaldo when he was a star
they bought him from small lisbon
n den he became a hero
    n see chelsea
they bought wright phillips when he was in a good condition
but not giving him the hance to play made him worst
    the same happend with shevchenko
u also brought him when he was a star
    and chelsea destroyed him..
    so heres the same
milan created shevchenko n chelsea destroyed him
    chelsea think of buying torres
but he is also gonn a b the same
chelsea are just destroying the players
it is not the player's fault that he doesnt gets a chance to play
thats why they think he is a burden
    chelsea are stupid
    roman is fool

  6. shevchneko came back to form and played two memorable matches.
the match against tottenham where he scored two ans setup the other ,he was absolutely great then he got injured and drogba came back andgrant didnt want to change the formation.
i seriously feel he is still a great striker and we need to shift to a 41212 formation...
sell drogba and lampard and get VILLA and MENEZ....
    our best team would be
    cech
    bosingwa carvalho terry a.cole

    mikel
    j.cole essien
    ballack

    shevchenko villa

    anelka
    malouda
    kalou
    alex
    belleti
    bridge
    menez

the bench ...it would be awesome....
I seriously hope chelsea do give sheva a last chance to prform and support him
He would be the best striker in the world and with villa we will be the champs next season!!!!
    always a blue!!!!

  7. "Above is a something that most Chelsea fans would love to see. The back of Andriy Shevchenko".

You dont know what Chelsea fans want. Assuming will get you nowhere mate. Silly, silly article..

    1. just because it may not be what you want to see, doesnt mean other cheski fans want him to stay. every chelski fan ive talked to wants him to go

    2. Did I say I wanted him to stay mate? Im just saying that your assuming from the few Chelsea fans you've spoken to, that we all feel that way, which is not the case. If you just take a peak at any of the many Chelsea forums, you'll find that your statement is far from the truth. Chelsea fans are actually split on the Shevchenco issuse.

Just be sure what you write is actually the true information before you publish it, thats all Im saying mate..

    3. ah fair enough, but i thought that would definately be what Chelsea fans wanted? Don't you think he's just wasting money? If Liverpool had a player in the same situation I would want him to leave, but then again i suppose Abramovich is a bottomless pit when it comes to money so he doesn't have to worry about wasting it as much

  8. Mourinho ruined his confidence and avram is the biggest fool by not even letting him out to play more then hes played cause he actually scored 8 goals in 14 starts and 8 times he was subbed in for someone, Our previous coaches might have won the premier league but they dont have a clue on how to manage superstars we just buy more stars thats how we fix players form. Lets buy more players who score 2 goals in 25 games maybe they will fix the problem. I have no idea why they baught anelka what a waste of money. Ye we have the 2nd highest scorer in European competitions but we dont let him play in the champions league final. Sell Lampard sell Anelka and bring Kaka or someone who can actually pass and slide strikers in not take a stupid shot from way out when someone else is open

  9. Shevchenco to me is a wonderful striker and if given the chances same as that given to Drogba he will do better. We should give Sheva one more season to shine, he has alot to offer mates....Paulie Rules(Holland)

  10. we all know by now that abrahamovich is no more a novice in this game like he was when he just bought chelsea and i think he now knows when something is worth it or not....i believe sheva should be giving another season to prove himself and be given more play chances...

Chelsea would be a better club if Drogba,Lampard,SWP,Pizzaro,TBH,Joe Cole,Sidwell are all shipped off far away....we have a good squad and i think all we need is a pretty good manager to bring out the best in them boys....

    KTBFFH{KEEP THE BLUE FLAG FLYING HIGH}

  11. To be fair, Shevy has never been given a chance to develop in Chelsea. I feel there are so much problems in Chelsea at the moment, Attitude, (plenty of "ego-maniacs" in Chelsea, there was a match which i can recalled, when Shevy scored Jose and Lampard action seems to be mocking him and in another incident when he was badly fouled Jose was seen joking and laughing with the technical staff on the bench). And when Kalou plays alongside with him I lost count on how many occasions which Kalou just refused to play him the ball even after he begs for it. For god sake, Shevy is an all out striker, if you do not play him with quality passes how do you expect him to perform? In Milan Kaka and the midfielders did a brilliant job, which would turn a good striker, "great'

After Jose took over, all strikers failed to perform in Chelsea except Drogba, so who do you blame? It is the style of play, before the arrival of Ballack they simply "steamroll" in their attacks from midfield with Lampard, and that is one reason why we see plenty of goals scored by their midfielders, and not their strikers.

Also Jose should have never talked about "the untouchables" it really brought instability to the team.
What "untouchables"? In the end he himself was asked to go.
