College football enters its second month and fifth week overall this weekend. There are only 17 FBS schools that are still undefeated.

Just three teams have a chance to be a BCS buster. Those three teams are TCU, Houston, and Boise State.

All three are in action this weekend. The ACC is theonly BCS conference without an undefeated team.  The Big-12 and the SEC lead the way with four undefeated teams apiece.

The Big East has two undefeated teams and the Big Ten has three undefeated teams. All the undefeated teams but four are in action this weekend. Only Florida, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas have the week off.

Here is a look at the biggest games of the weekend and games that could have implications later in the season when bowl committees start looking at teams.

Thursday Night

Colorado Buffaloes vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

Colorado has had a week to prepare for this game. The Buffaloes got their first win of the season in week three against Wyoming.

West Virginia has also had a week to get ready for this game. The last time we saw the Mountaineers they lost on the road to Auburn.

Who needs the win more: Both

Colorado got off to a rough start to start the season with two straight losses. The Buffaloes can get the Big-12 a non conference win and reach the .500 mark.

West Virginia had Auburn against the rope when turnovers doomed them. The Mountaineers saw Jarrett Brown injured on the Plains as well. Brown will play but how well and the Big East if fighting for respect a win here gives a Pat White-less West Virginia team a big win.

Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles vs. UAB Blazers

The Eagles saw their dreams of a perfect season end in Kansas last week. Southern Miss still has a chance at a conference championship and is still undefeated in C-USA.

The Blazers have not won since the opening week of the season. UAB continues its tour of Mississippi next week against Ole Miss.

Who needs the win more: Southern Mississippi

The Eagles have a chance to play in the conference championship game this season. They still have several big games to go this season.

They cannot afford to slip up against the Blazers and make their road to the championship game harder. The Blazers would love to get a big win at home over the Eagles.

Friday Night

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Louisville Cardinals

Pittsburgh lost a lead late in a loss to North Carolina State last week. The Panthers were undefeated until that point and would love to bounce back with a win.

The Cardinals are on a two-game losing streak. Louisville has lost to Kentucky and Utah in back to back weeks.

Who needs the win more: Both

This is the conference opener for both teams. The Panthers and the Cardinals both have a chance to win the Big East. The Cardinals will have a tough row to hoe if they lose this game. Pittsburgh has to prove they can hold a lead late in game if they want to win the conference.

Saturday

Michigan Wolverines vs. Michigan State Spartans

After all the off-season problems around Michigan a 4-0 start has made them all go away and the Rich Rodriguez love fest has started. The Wolverines are one of three undefeated teams in the Big Ten.

Michigan State lost three close games by a combined total 13 points. Two of the three losses were by three points are less. A couple of breaks and Michigan State could be a winning football team.

Who needs the win more: Michigan

This is the first road start for the Wolverines star quarterback Tate Forcier. Michigan State needs to make the environment as hostel as possible for the young single caller.

Michigan now has bigger dreams than just a bowl game in Rich Rod’s second year. A Big Ten championship could be in the hands of the Wolverines.

A loss against the Spartans and then at tough road trip to Iowa the next week could end their Big Ten championship dreams.

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

The Badgers are undefeated heading into this contest and have dreams of a Big Ten title as well. Wisconsin makes its first road trip in Big Ten play this week as well.

Minnesota hosts its first home game in their new stadium in Big Ten play.  The Gophers bounced back after losing to California to open conference play with a win.

Who needs the win more: Both

The Badgers and the Gophers have good chances in conference with opening game wins. The Gophers could use a win a slight bit more after the loss to the Bears.

Wisconsin has dreams of a perfect season and a conference title and the BCS game that goes along with it. The Badgers could be a major player in the Big Ten and nationally if they keep winning.

Minnesota has only lost to California so a Big Ten title and a BCS game is still in reach. A loss here could end both.

LSU Tigers vs. Georgia Bulldogs

This game is the first of three top 25 matchups this weekend. The Tigers survived with a goal-line stand against Mississippi State to stay perfect on the season.

Georgia outlasted Arizona State in a non-conference battle last week. The Bulldogs have not lost since the first week of the season on the road against Oklahoma State.

Who needs the win more: Both

The Tigers are still in the running for and SEC and national championship. This game is the first of two major tests LSU will face this month. The Tigers cannot get caught looking ahead to next week and the Florida Gators.

Georgia still can win both a SEC title and with some help a national title. The Bulldogs will not lose their chance of a conference title with a loss but anything more will need lots of help.

Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

Penn State lost its chance to make a statement last Saturday in a loss to Iowa. The Lions will get a chance to get their first Big Ten win this week.

The Illini looked lifeless in a shutout loss to Ohio State last week. Illinois was thought to be a Big Ten contender. After losses to Ohio State and Missouri the Illini look like a Big Ten after thought.

Who needs the win more: Both

If the Illini players want to help their coach, Ron Zook, keep his job a win is all but necessary at this point in the season. An Illinois loss would doom the current coaching staff with all the talent that returned for Illinois this season.

Penn State failed its first test losing at home to Iowa and losing to the Hawkeyes for the seventh time this decade overall. The Lions need to bounce back with a win to keep their Big Ten and BCS title hopes alive. A second loss could end both.

UCLA Bruins vs. Stanford Cardinal

The Bruins are the only Pac-10 team left without a blemish on its record. UCLA is lacking the severances of Kevin Prince at starting quarterback. Prince has a broken jaw, which he received against Tennessee.

Stanford is leading the Pac-10 after four weeks of play. The Cardinal is a perfect 2-0 in conference play.

Who needs the win more: Both

The Bruins are perfect and hope to stay that way. A win over the Cardinal helps UCLA keep the ship righted until Prince can return. A loss does not mean the season is over but does mean some serious catch-up in conference play.

Stanford has more to lose with a loss in this game. The Cardinal needs a fast start while other teams keep dropping conference games. If Stanford can jump out to a 3-0 lead in the conference, a BCS game could be theirs.

Washington Huskies vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Huskies beat the Trojans and then got trounced by Stanford the next week. Washington needs to show if the team that showed up against LSU and USC is the real deal or if last week’s team is the real one.

Notre Dame is on the march for the 10 wins it might need to keep Charlie Weis in a job. The Irish are treading dangerously close to the edge after needing a late interception to beat Michigan State and a late drive to beat Purdue.

Who needs the win more: Notre Dame

Sure the Huskies could use another big win in Steve Sarkisian’s first year. A win over Notre Dame is always looked upon as a big win.

The Irish are fighting for their head coach’s job. That makes this a must win for them. Another loss could doom Weis with the schedule that will still be left to play. Notre Dame still has USC, among other tough games.

Florida State Seminoles vs. Boston College Eagles

The only reason why this game even makes the list is the fact that it involves the Seminoles. Florida State plays it second game of the season on the road. Which Florida State team will show up the one that spanked BYU or the one that laid three eggs at home in three games.

Boston College is tied for the lead in the Atlantic division with a 1-1 conference record. The Eagles are making this a “Gold Out” in support of Mark Herzlich who is battling cancer. The emotions will be high for the Eagles in this home game.

Who needs the win more: Florida State

Everyone would love to see BC win this game in support of the 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year Herzlich. The entire country is hoping he can make a full recovery and comeback to the sport he loves.

The Seminole on the other hand are the Jekyll and Hyde of college football. They played close with Miami and could have won.

They looked lackluster against Jacksonville State in a win. Then went to BYU and spanked them in Provo. Next was the lackluster home performance against South Florida.

Florida State has to start showing constancy and start showing it fast.

Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Indiana Hoosiers

The Buckeyes are still in the conference and national title race after spanking the Illini from Illinois. Ohio State has done well after the loss at home to USC.

Indiana has to put a tough loss to Michigan on the road last week behind them. The Hoosiers stood toe to toe with the Wolverines until a controversial call ended their upset bid.

Who needs the win more: Both

The Buckeyes cannot afford another loss if they want to stay in the national title picture. A second loss will doom them even if they are one of several two loss teams.  Ohio State has to run the table if they want a BCS bowl this year.

Indiana would have two conference losses early if they drop this game. The Hoosiers need to win this game if they want to show the rest of the Big Ten they are not fodder for the league.

USC Trojans vs. California Golden Bears

USC is back to its winning ways after getting upset in Washington. The Trojans still have all their season goals at hand even with the loss.  This is the second of three top 25 games this week.

The Bears did not look like the best team in the Pac-10 that many thought they were last week at Oregon. California got took to the woodshed by the Ducks in a game that was never close.

Who needs the win more: Both

Another conference loss by both these teams could spell the end of a conference championship. The winner will have a much better chance at playing catch-up for the title and the BCS or possible national championship game that could come along with a win.

The Trojans look beatable and the Bears need to prove they are for real. This is a must win game for both teams.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Miami Hurricanes

This is the final top 25 matchup of the week. The Hurricanes were rocked on the road by Virginia Tech last week. Oklahoma has kept things going after Sam Bradford went down in the first week of the season.

Who needs the win more: Both

Miami would prove they are totally back with a 3-1 start with their killer schedule. The Hurricanes would still be one of the ten best teams in the country with a win over the Sooners.

Oklahoma needs to win this game not matter if Bradford plays for not. While neither team would be out of a BSC game with an out of conference loss in this game the Sooners would be out of the title picture with two loses.

Just like the Cal and USC game this is a must win game for the Sooners no matter what they do in conference play if they hope to have a chance to make it to a second straight national title game.

Other Games to Keep an Eye On:

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

This is a big early conference game for both teams in ACC play. The Wolfpack and the Deacons both could use a win.

Air Force Falcons vs. Navy Midshipmen

This game is the first in the round robin tournament for the Commander and Chief Trophy.

Mississippi (Ole Miss) Rebels vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

The Rebels have a chance to bounce back after their loss to South Carolina last week. A loss would doom all of the Ole Miss’ goals for the season.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Yellow Jackets want to keep their winning ways going after a loss to Miami. The Bulldogs have to avoid a letdown after nearly beating LSU last week. A win will be big for both teams.

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

The Aggies are undefeated and a win could land Texas A&M in the top 25. The Razorbacks would love to get a big win over a former Southwest Conference foe.

Auburn Tigers vs. Tennessee Volunteers

The Tigers are undefeated and have still has to play some very tough games in conference. The Volunteers will have everyone watching to see if they are playing to win or keep the game close.

Both teams could use a big conference win in this game.

There are some other teams to watch. TCU has to keep winning if they want to keep their BCS dreams alive against SMU.

Oregon can go 2-0 in the Pac-10 with a win over Washington State. Baylor gets used to life after Robert Griffin this week against Kent State.

Iowa plays a tough Arkansas State team to remain perfect on the season. Boise State wants to keep its BCS dreams alive against UC Davis.

Houston needs to find some helmets before their game against UTEP to keep their BCS hopes alive. South Florida takes on Syracuse to stay undefeated.

Alabama plays Kentucky in a key SEC match up. The Cincinnati Bearcats hope to stay undefeated against Miami (OH) as well.

Week five of the college football season should bring everything closer into focus. Sit back this Saturday and enjoy another great week of college football.
