College football enters its second month and fifth week overall this weekend. There are only 17 FBS schools that are still undefeated.
Just three teams have a chance to be a BCS buster. Those three teams are TCU, Houston, and Boise State.
All three are in action this weekend. The ACC is theonly BCS conference without an undefeated team. The Big-12 and the SEC lead the way with four undefeated teams apiece.
The Big East has two undefeated teams and the Big Ten has three undefeated teams. All the undefeated teams but four are in action this weekend. Only Florida, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas have the week off.
Here is a look at the biggest games of the weekend and games that could have implications later in the season when bowl committees start looking at teams.
Thursday Night
Colorado Buffaloes vs. West Virginia Mountaineers
Colorado has had a week to prepare for this game. The Buffaloes got their first win of the season in week three against Wyoming.
West Virginia has also had a week to get ready for this game. The last time we saw the Mountaineers they lost on the road to Auburn.
Who needs the win more: Both
Colorado got off to a rough start to start the season with two straight losses. The Buffaloes can get the Big-12 a non conference win and reach the .500 mark.
West Virginia had Auburn against the rope when turnovers doomed them. The Mountaineers saw Jarrett Brown injured on the Plains as well. Brown will play but how well and the Big East if fighting for respect a win here gives a Pat White-less West Virginia team a big win.
Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles vs. UAB Blazers
The Eagles saw their dreams of a perfect season end in Kansas last week. Southern Miss still has a chance at a conference championship and is still undefeated in C-USA.
The Blazers have not won since the opening week of the season. UAB continues its tour of Mississippi next week against Ole Miss.
Who needs the win more: Southern Mississippi
The Eagles have a chance to play in the conference championship game this season. They still have several big games to go this season.
They cannot afford to slip up against the Blazers and make their road to the championship game harder. The Blazers would love to get a big win at home over the Eagles.
Friday Night
Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Louisville Cardinals
Pittsburgh lost a lead late in a loss to North Carolina State last week. The Panthers were undefeated until that point and would love to bounce back with a win.
The Cardinals are on a two-game losing streak. Louisville has lost to Kentucky and Utah in back to back weeks.
Who needs the win more: Both
This is the conference opener for both teams. The Panthers and the Cardinals both have a chance to win the Big East. The Cardinals will have a tough row to hoe if they lose this game. Pittsburgh has to prove they can hold a lead late in game if they want to win the conference.
Saturday
Michigan Wolverines vs. Michigan State Spartans
After all the off-season problems around Michigan a 4-0 start has made them all go away and the Rich Rodriguez love fest has started. The Wolverines are one of three undefeated teams in the Big Ten.
Michigan State lost three close games by a combined total 13 points. Two of the three losses were by three points are less. A couple of breaks and Michigan State could be a winning football team.
Who needs the win more: Michigan
This is the first road start for the Wolverines star quarterback Tate Forcier. Michigan State needs to make the environment as hostel as possible for the young single caller.
Michigan now has bigger dreams than just a bowl game in Rich Rod’s second year. A Big Ten championship could be in the hands of the Wolverines.
