US Open Leaderboard 2016: Updating Results and Standings for Friday

Rough weather conditions marred the opening day of the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont, as play was suspended before most players finished their first rounds.

The tournament will resume Friday to finish Round 1 and start Round 2.

Andrew Landry jetted out to an early lead at three under, but numerous established players, including Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood, are nipping at his heels.

Here is a look at the leaderboard heading into Friday:

Angel Cabrera was the last winner at treacherous Oakmont in 2007, finishing at five over.

The rain softened the greens a bit Thursday, which allowed many players to start their tournaments with under-par scores. Landry was among those beneficiaries, and the European Tour's Twitter account noted that he is on the verge of history:

The round was even more impressive given Landry's lack of professional experience, per PGATour.com's Mike McAllister:

While Landry was excellent, top golfers such as Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth experienced mixed results. 

Spieth shot a decent one-over round to settle into a tie for 16th place, while McIlroy struggled at four over to end in a tie for 38th place.

Spieth birdied his third hole but bogeyed twice down the stretch, including on his last hole, to rise above par. McIlroy bogeyed twice in his first three holes and notched only one birdie on the day as well.

Jason Day and Phil Mickelson were among the notables who were unable to tee off.

Watson also took advantage of the soft greens to get into second place. The PGA Tour provided a look at this long putt, which put him in his current position:

Watson is a long-ball hitter, but his aggressive mentality and lack of discretion could hurt him because of the steep angles of Oakmont's greens. Regardless, he is still in contention early, and his prowess as a two-time major winner should make him a threat moving forward.

Landry played the best round of his life, and he is not likely to repeat this performance throughout the tournament. Spieth is still lurking only a few shots back, so he and Watson will push Landry for the lead Friday.
