Curry Denies Report About Potential Shoulder Surgery
Sunday, June 12
The Los Angeles Daily News' Mark Heisler reported, "A source says Curry consulted [an] orthopedist in Southern California. [Curry's] MRI showed issues with both shoulders as well as his knees, some of which may require surgery this summer."
Curry has refuted the report, saying, "I can't keep a straight face," per Dieter Kurtenbach of Fox Sports. "Whoever said I'm getting shoulder surgery... it's going to be fine."
Curry Has Been Banged Up for Majority of the Playoffs
Specifics regarding the severity of Curry's injuries are unknown, but the 28-year-old has battled a variety of ailments throughout the postseason.
Curry sprained his ankle in Game 1 of the Warriors' conference quarterfinal series with the Houston Rockets and missed Games 2 and 3 as he recovered. But when the floor general returned in Game 4, his stint lasted just 19 minutes before he suffered a Grade 1 MCL sprain.
The MVP then missed his team's next four games—including the first three of Golden State's second-round series against the Portland Trail Blazers—before he returned in Game 4 and dropped 40 points, including an NBA-record 17 in overtime of the 132-125 win.
Although Curry hasn't looked quite like himself over the past two rounds, he has put forth some stellar shooting displays to help position the Warriors to repeat as NBA champions. Most notably, Curry posted 31 points facing elimination in each of Games 5 and 6 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder before pouring in 36 points in Game 7.
Curry also shook off rust that was evident during the first three games of the NBA Finals—in which he scored 48 points and made 10 threes combined—to notch 38 points and drill seven triples in Game 4, pushing the Cavaliers to the brink of elimination.
