Anthony Martial Injury: Manchester United Winger Injures Calf Ahead of Leicester
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial will sit out the team's clash with Leicester City on Saturday because of a calf problem.
His manager, Jose Mourinho, informed reporters of the knock on Friday, per BBC Sport's Simon Stone:
Martial hobbled out of the team's 3-1 loss to Watford on Sunday after a couple of bangs to the head. However, Mourinho stated his absence is not related to those particular collisions.
Per Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, the manager said the Frenchman suffered the calf injury when attempting a tackle ahead of the Hornets' opening goal.
Despite widespread—and at the time of his arrival, understandable—concerns over his initial £36 million price tag, Martial enjoyed a superb debut season with United.
He racked up 17 goals and eight assists for the Red Devils in all competitions in 2015/16, making him the side's most potent attacking threat, even though he was largely deployed on the left.
The Frenchman's pace, willingness to run at players and composure made him a breath of fresh air amid United's otherwise laboured attacking play under then-manager Louis van Gaal last season, and it's important for the club he returns to fitness as soon as possible.
This season, he's found form tough to come by, though, with Mourinho implementing a different style at Old Trafford, and Martial has yet to find the net.
The likes of Marcus Rashford, an under-pressure Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be expected to grab the goals in his absence.
