Zac Blair DQ'd for Using the Putter He Bent After Hitting Himself in the Head
Zac Blair knows he's "#GottaDoBetter."
The 25-year-old golfer was disqualified from the Wells Fargo Championship on Friday for using a "non-conforming club," defined as having sustained "damage other than in the normal course of play" (h/t PGA.com)—which is really just a technical way of saying he bent his putter out of frustration and then used it.
Blair had hit himself in the head with the putter after missing a birdie putt on the fifth hole of the second round and then tapped the putt in with the same putter he had just unintentionally bent. He finally realized the damage he had done on the next hole, informing officials, who had to disqualify him.
Blair later explained what happened, claiming he let his emotions get the best of him:
He did find a way to make light of the situation, tweeting a GIF of a Woody Austin head bang in response to the PGA's announcement:
