WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from May 2

Erik BeastonMay 3, 2016

Just 24 hours removed from another superb main event performance on a pay-per-view, Roman Reigns established himself as the biggest winner from the May 2 episode of WWE Raw, continuing his hot streak.

Reigns may have been on the losing end of Monday's main event, which saw him team with The Usos to battle AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, but he recovered nicely. After Jimmy and Jey came to his aid, Reigns exploded with furious vengeance, delivering a bone-shattering powerbomb to The Phenomenal One through an announce table.

Boos rained down from the stands, and this time, they were warranted. After all, Styles spared Reigns a beating just moments earlier but was not afforded the same luxury by The Big Dog.

Monday was the second consecutive night in which Reigns demonstrated an edgier attitude than before, again relying on a power-based offense before earning the scorn of fans for all the right reasons as he left Styles lying.

It is unlikely that his attack was any sort of official heel turn. Commentators still treated Reigns like the lead babyface on the show, clearly trying to convince audiences that he is still a "good guy." The fact that he has demonstrated heel tendencies over the last two nights, though, suggests that WWE Creative may be open to presenting him as a tweener going forward.

Whatever the case may be, developing the Reigns character beyond the "guy who fights for championships" is a step in the right direction for one of the company's hardest workers.

Joining Reigns on the winner's side this week are one of WWE's principal owners and a big man revitalized by a high-profile victory. Not so lucky was an entire division that has lost considerable momentum since WrestleMania.

Winner: Stephanie McMahon

The Billion Dollar Princess was one of the brightest stars of Monday's show, an insincere fake trying desperately to convince her brother Shane, fans and employees that she had somehow turned over a new leaf. Her older sibling knew better, as did Dean Ambrose, who tried to get the vindictive Stephanie to emerge from behind the facade she had put up.

She announced the return of the Highlight Reel but never really cracked.

Stephanie's performance Monday was superb. Walking the fine line between sinner and saint, she got the new element of her character over perfectly, and the result was some of the most entertaining television of the night.

Losers: The Woman's Division

Did you know Natalya and Charlotte are currently feuding over the top prize in women's wrestling? Probably not, since the entirety of their feud has centered on their family legacies rather than the most important championship in their profession.

Add to that the fact that Emma and Becky Lynch brought their issues to a conclusion in a five-minute match that was not nearly as meaningful as it should have been, and you have another disappointing night for female Superstars in WWE.

What happened? The division had so much momentum coming out of WrestleMania 32, what with outstanding performances from Sasha Banks, Lynch and Charlotte. Now, WWE Creative is relying on two retired legends to get an otherwise uninspired feud over with its fanbase, while someone as immensely popular as Banks is wallowing in catering.

Winner: Rusev

The Bulgarian Brute was one of WWE's most mishandled Superstars in 2015, a super-athlete whose talents were never in question but whose credibility certainly was, especially after the Dolph Ziggler debacle of last summer.

Rusev's win in the United States Championship No. 1 Contender's Battle Royal Monday night erased the lackluster booking, put The League of Nations firmly behind him and rejuvenated a character who never should have cooled off in the first place.

A rarity in that he is a heavyweight who moves like a cruiserweight, Rusev is one of the most explosive workers on the roster. His impending matches with Kalisto should be incredibly fun, perhaps even outstanding, as he tosses the U.S. champion around the squared circle and then bumps around for him.

It will not be easy to erase the missteps in booking that have plagued his career over the last 12 months, but Rusev will hold up his end. Now it is up to WWE Creative to make up for its failures.
