Enzo Amore Injured During WWE Payback 2016, Match vs. The Vaudevillains Stopped
The No. 1 contender's match for the WWE Tag Team Championships was the first match of WWE Payback on Sunday, but it was stopped early after Enzo Amore was rushed to the hospital with a head injury, according to WWE.com.
WWE passed along news during the show that he was able to communicate with the medical staff and could move his arms and legs. He was later diagnosed with a concussion, with the rest of the tests coming back negative.
Simon Gotch of the Vaudevillains attempted to toss Enzo out of the ring, but Enzo's head hit the second rope before he fell out of the ring, via WWE:
He remained motionless before the medical team came ringside and took him off on a stretcher.
WWE shared a photo after the pay-per-view of Amore leaving the hospital:
Enzo and Colin Cassady, along with the Vaudevillains, battled through a No. 1 contender's tournament over the last month, and both teams earned the right to meet at Payback, with the winner set to take on The New Day for the titles.
As soon as Enzo suffered the injury, numerous WWE and NXT wrestling personalities sent their support:
The match was stopped without a result, but Enzo's health is obviously the most important thing.
WWE reacted quickly to get him to the hospital, and his movement and ability to talk are good signs.
The next order of business is figuring out what to do with the tag team titles, as The New Day are still without opponents for their next title defense. Either The Vaudevillains will vault into the No. 1 contender's spot by default, or there will be another match to determine new contenders.
The best guess is that there will be a decision on Monday Night Raw to begin the buildup.
