NBA Betting Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies Game 3 Odds

OddsShark.comApr 21, 2016

The San Antonio Spurs have shown through the first two games why they were such massive favorites to win their first-round playoff series with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Spurs were the biggest favorites of any team to advance and have beaten the Grizzlies by an average of 29 points so far as the scene shifts to Memphis for Game 3 on Friday.

San Antonio is listed as a consensus 11.5-point road favorite at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark and has grown to -100000 to win the series (bet $100,000 to win $100) for those still willing to take that wager.

The Spurs opened as 11-point chalk on the NBA betting lines, the biggest point spread for any road team in NBA playoff history, after setting similar marks at home for the first two games. San Antonio closed as a 16.5-point favorite in a 106-74 rout in Game 1 and got up to 18.5-point favorites before closing at 17.5 points and winning 94-68 in Game 2.

Each of the first two games also easily finished under the total for bettors, the third straight time that has happened in the series overall and sixth in the last eight meetings, according to the Odds Shark NBA Database.

The big problem for the Grizzlies has been scoring due to injuries and trades that shook up the team during the regular season. Zach Randolph remains the only starter still in the starting lineup from the start of the year, and he has struggled mightily in the first two games.

Randolph has averaged 8.5 points on 8-of-30 shooting (26.7 percent), although he played better in Game 2, scoring 11 while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Tony Allen led the team with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting in 21 minutes off the bench.

The Spurs have also been outstanding defensively, holding Memphis below 40 percent shooting in both games. It has not helped either that the Grizzlies have made only 14-of-24 attempts from the free-throw line compared to 35-of-40 for San Antonio.

Memphis might be more aggressive at home and try to get to the charity stripe more, although another low-scoring game seems more than likely.
