Tre Mason Arrest Warrant Issued After Failure to Appear in Court

Tim DanielsApr 13, 2016

An arrest warrant has been issued for Los Angeles Rams running back Tre Mason after he failed to show up for an arraignment hearing Monday in his reckless driving case.

TMZ Sports reported Wednesday that Mason is facing charges of marijuana possession, reckless driving and resisting arrest after an incident on March 5. His bond will be set at $1,500 once he's taken into custody.

Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reported in March a police report filed with the Broward County Clerk of Courts in Florida showed police used a taser to subdue Mason. An officer stated Mason wouldn't provide his name or license and refused to exit his vehicle after being told he was under arrest.

The ESPN.com report also included a statement from the Rams: "We are very disappointed to learn of an incident involving [Mason] in the Miami, [Florida], area Saturday afternoon. We are in the process of obtaining more information about the facts surrounding this incident and will have no further comment at this time."

Mason rushed for 765 yards and four touchdowns across 12 games as a rookie in 2014. His role dropped off significantly last season following the arrival of Todd Gurley, however, as the Auburn product received just 75 carries in 13 appearances.

In turn, his status heading toward the 2016 campaign remains unsettled. He's under contract for two more years, per Spotrac, but head coach Jeff Fisher said in February he was looking for a "great offseason program" from the reserve back, as noted by Brandon Marcello of AL.com:

"

We drafted Tre for a reason and when you look at our running back position, when you talk about Todd and then Tre and then Benny [Cunningham], I think that's as good a group as you'll find in the league from the depth standpoint and the difference in their abilities and what they do. I think Tre realizes he's got to put the commitment in wherever he is and get ready for camp and have a great preseason.

"

His agent didn't immediately respond to TMZ Sports' request for comment following the missed court appearance this week.

Between his lack of involvement in the offense last season, the team's depth at the position and now the off-field issues, Mason is likely walking on thin ice with the organization.
