"History was made last night with both a record-setting crowd at AT&T Stadium and more households than ever before watching WrestleMania on WWE Network," said WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in the release. "WWE Network continues to drive transformative growth for our company."

During the event, WWE announced WrestleMania 32 grossed $17.3 million, with 101,763 fans packing inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, per ESPN.com. Both figures are also company records.

The success of WWE Network is important for the continued growth of WWE. Last August, CNN Money's Paul R. La Monica explained how rising subscriber numbers were resulting in an increase in the value of WWE's publicly traded shares.

Awful Announcing's Matt Yoder noted 1 million subscribers was thought to be the break-even point in terms of making the WWE Network a financial success. The fact that it's now approaching nearly 2 million subscribers will only strengthen the company's bottom line.
