The Road Is About To Get Bumpy For The 3-0 Baltimore Ravens

Nick SignorelliSep 28, 2009

After defeating the Cleveland Browns 34-3 Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens won their third consecutive game of the season.

The Ravens now hold a one game lead over the Cincinnati Bengals, and a two game lead over the hated Pittsburgh Steelers. Racing to the team's second ever 3-0 record, the Ravens seem to be winning in a way that Ravens fans are not used to.

Joe Flacco has led the Ravens through the air, not the ground, in beating their first three opponents this season.

The Ravens defense, usually the best unit on the team, has done their usual job against the run. Where they are lacking, is against the pass.

With the first three games officially in the books, we can look back at the games to see why the Ravens have been so successful.

Week one—Kansas City Chiefs. Current record 0-3. Also lost to the Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles. Ravens win 38-24, scoring two touchdowns in the last two minutes of a game that was closer than the score indicates.

Week two—San Diego Chargers. Current record 2-1. Other than losing to the Ravens, beat the 0-3 Dolphins and 0-3 Raiders. Ravens win when Ray Lewis destroys Darren Sproles on fourth and short.

Week three—Cleveland Browns. Current record 0-3. Also lost to Minnesota and Denver in blow outs.

Make no mistake, 3-0 is a fantastic record for any team against any schedule. The road that the Ravens have been on though is about to get bumpy.

Week 4—@ New England Patriots. The Pats rebounded in week three, beating the previously undefeated Atlanta Falcons, 26-10.

Week 5—The new and improved Cincinnati Bengals come to town, with a defense that has opened some eyes around the NFL, and a passing game led by Carson Palmer, and Chad Ochocinco. If the Ravens don't improve their pass defense, Palmer will have a field day.

Week 6—@ Minnesota. The undefeated Vikings have a stout defense, Brett Favre at quarterback, and one of the best running backs in the history of the NFL in Adrian Peterson.

With the first three games of the season in the books, the Ravens have done their job by beating the teams they are supposed to beat. With the next set of games on tap for the Ravens, it remains to be seen if this teams destiny is the Super Bowl, or broken down some where along the way.
