Not the Kentucky-South Carolina Matchup of Old
This year, it's a matchup between top 11 teams! That's right: top 11.
QB Comparison: At QB for Kentucky, Andre Woodson is in everyone's Heisman race and has been flat-out the man. He's thrown for over 1300 yards, 16 TDs, and only one pick. He lit it up in their two big games vs. Louisville and Arkansas, in which he had a combined 6 TDs.
For the Gamecocks, Chris Smelley took over the starting job last week. He had a pretty decent performance, tossing for 279 yards and leading USC to a 38-21 win over MSU. He's done well, but he's unproven in big games.
RB Comparison: The RB for Kentucky, Rafael Little, has been the unsung hero of this offense. He's gone for over 100 yards in all games this year (with the exception of Arkansas.) This little guy is a big part of why UK is 5-0.
South Carolina has a tandem of solid Running Backs in Cory Boyd and Mike Davis. Boyd scored the only offensive TD in USC's 16-12 upset of Georgia in Athens, while Mike Davis ran for USC's only rushing TD against LSU's highly-touted defense in a 28-16 loss.
WR Comparison: UK's recieving core has been a huge help to Andre Woodson. The stud here is Keenan Burton. Burton's gone for 100 yards twice, and has hauled in five TDs. WR's Dicky Lyons and Steve Johnson are also having valuable years to help the Wildcat offense.
For Spurrier's Gamecocks, no receiver has made a sizeable contribution to help QB Chris Smelley besides leading reciever Kenny McKinley. McKinley has over 300 yards and five TDs on the season. He also has 27 receptions, 17 more than any other Gamecock.
Defense Comparison: The USC defense has been pretty stout this year. I think its the best they've had in a while at South Carolina. MLB Jasper Brinkley and brother Casper really put some strength at the Linebacker position. Usually, this squad holds teams to below 20.
UK's defense has been nothing more than mediocre. They gave up 29 to Arkansas and 34 to Louisville, who proved to not be that great. It's a good thing USC's offense is nothing more than average. If the Wildcats win, it will be because of the offense.
Overall prediction: Andre Woodson contributes multiple TDs in a 30-20 UK win.
