Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch: WWE WrestleMania 32 Winner, Reaction

Mike ChiariApr 3, 2016

Charlotte overcame her biggest challenge yet Sunday night at WrestleMania 32, as she defeated both Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat match to win the first-ever Women's Championship match.

WWE shared the finish, and WWE Network noted the historic accomplishment:

Once again, Charlotte's father, Ric Flair, played a large role, interfering on multiple occasions, although Banks and Lynch would get their revenge at one point, via WWE Universe:

Brian Fritz of Sporting News and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross provided their takes on the match:

Both Charlotte and Banks posted their thoughts after the match on Twitter:

Earlier in the night, WWE announced the Diva's Championship would be renamed the Women's Championship.

Along with Bayley, Charlotte, Sasha and Becky once comprised the aptly nicknamed Four Horsewomen of NXT. They helped change the game and the perception of female performers under the WWE umbrella, and they spearheaded the Divas revolution in the process.

All of them were called up during the summer of 2015 with the exception of Bayley, and they quickly rose up the ranks within the main roster's division. Just a few months into her tenure, Charlotte defeated Nikki Bella for the Divas title and ended the longest reign in the history of the belt.

It didn't take long for her personality to change, though, as her legendary father became her manager and seemingly instilled some of his heel-like tendencies within her.

Charlotte turned her back on Becky despite their time together as part of Team PCB, and that essentially set the stage for the match that occurred at WrestleMania.

Following the Nature Girl's win over Becky at Royal Rumble, Sasha returned from a brief absence to take out both women. She and Becky then engaged in a pair of matches for the No. 1 contendership on the heels of a short-lived alliance, but when no clear winner emerged, the Triple Threat was booked.

Once that match was set in stone, Charlotte was under fire in a big way. Sasha and Becky had issues with each other in their own right, but they directed much of their vitriol toward the Dirtiest Diva in the Game.

The Irish Lass Kicker often made it clear that she fully intended to take the Divas Championship from Charlotte at WrestleMania, according to WWE Universe on Twitter:

The Boss did the same while also reminding her opponents of her dominant track record since making the leap from NXT to WWE:

Charlotte's odds of retaining went down significantly with two opponents gunning for her, and the fact that faces generally rule the day at WrestleMania didn't bode particularly well for her either.

Even so, the resourceful former NXT Women's champion managed to overcome a pair of worthy challengers and push her impressive title reign closer to 200 days.

Most assumed that WrestleMania would mark a coronation for Banks or perhaps even Lynch, but WWE reinforced its belief in Charlotte as a dominant heel champion Sunday and set the stage for an intriguing title scene moving forward.

Both Sasha and Becky figure to remain in contention, while the potential looming debut of Bayley could play a role as soon as Monday's edition of Raw.

Charlotte, Sasha and Becky proved Sunday night that women's wrestling in WWE is very much on the rise, and that was a major win for all three Divas regardless of the result.
