WWE Fastlane 2016: Predictions, Full Breakdown of Biggest Matches on the Card

Aaron BowerFeb 16, 2016

WWE's final pay-per-view before WrestleMania is always an important one on the calendar, and plans for the biggest show of the year should become clearer following this Sunday's Fastlane.

With a mouth-watering main event between Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose the marquee attraction, the events on the go-home edition of Raw on Monday made one man's chances of victory slightly higher than before.

There is also an intriguing bout for the Intercontinental Championship on the card following a new champion being crowned on Raw, as well as two matches from the Divas division to look forward to.

Let's break down the matches on the card, as well as offer some tentative predictions for who might prevail in each bout this weekend.

Kalisto vs. Alberto Del Rio (United States Championship)

1 of 5

It was revealed on Monday night that not only is this match now on the pre-show, but it's also a 2-out-of-3 Falls match.

That would have been an exciting prospect had the match remained on the main show, but with it now taking place before Fastlane goes on the air, you'd expect it to be fairly short in length.

Will WWE pitch a shutout and have one star win the first two falls? That could be a possibility, but given how strong Del Rio has looked lately, it may go the distance.

And even though he's picked up a couple of good wins against The Lucha Dragons of late, you would still suspect Kalisto will retain the United States Championship and move to WrestleMania 32 as the champion.

If he does retain, he will desperately need a fresh challenger, you feel.

Winner: Kalisto

Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch vs. Naomi and Tamina

2 of 5

An unlikely allegiance between Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks has led to this tag match for Fastlane, but there's every possibility their friendship could implode this Sunday.

With both seemingly having their sights on Charlotte and the Divas Championship, the only way you could realistically see them losing here is if one attacks the other during the match.

However, what's more likely is that they see off the threat of Tamina and Naomi before perhaps setting up a Triple Threat match the following night on Raw.

For them both to advance to that bout against Charlotte, who will likely retain against Brie Bella, a win here seems logical, as well as important, for their continued momentum.

Winners: Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch

Charlotte vs. Brie Bella (Divas Championship)

3 of 5

This seems like the easiest match of the night to predict, especially when you factor in what will probably happen earlier in the night with Banks and Lynch.

Three of NXT's biggest graduates are destined to meet at WrestleMania 32, which makes failure for any of them here a slim option.

Charlotte's minifeud with Brie has been decent, but it doesn't feel like the kind of rivalry that can carry along the Divas Championship.

This is merely a holding feud for Charlotte until the build to WrestleMania gets underway properly next week, and after she sees off Brie this Sunday, she can focus on bigger targets that lie ahead.

Winner: Charlotte

Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens (Intercontinental Championship)

4 of 5

There was a shock twist on the final Raw before Fastlane, with Kevin Owens recapturing the Intercontinental Championship he lost late last year.

That has quickly changed the dynamic and future of that title, especially with Dean Ambrose now able to focus completely on this Sunday's main event at Fastlane.

What it does mean is that a whole host of guys could potentially come forward and face Owens, including the likes of AJ Styles and even Sami Zayn.

They are both exciting prospects, but first, Owens will have to bring down the curtain on his rivalry with Dolph Ziggler.

The two have had some great matches of late, but this already feels like a slightly drawn-out feud. It would be unthinkable to imagine Owens dropping the title six days after winning it back, so he gets the victory here.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Dean Ambrose

5 of 5

Admittedly, the fact Ambrose has now dropped the Intercontinental Championship makes his chances of winning slightly higher this Sunday.

There's also the possibility that the company could now do Lesnar vs. Ambrose at WrestleMania if it wanted, especially if, as expected, Roman Reigns wins.

This has been a well-built match to date, with some excellent work from most of the guys involved in the rivalry, including Paul Heyman.

He and Reigns had an interesting confrontation on Raw, but it was what happened afterward with Reigns and Ambrose that got fans seriously excited for Sunday.

What should be a worry for WWE, though, is that the guy who is most likely to go over here has been the passenger for most of the rivalry. The spotlight has been heavily placed on Ambrose and Lesnar throughout, so if Reigns is going to win, he will need to impress here.

As much as people would love to see a shock, it just doesn't seem likely.

Winner: Roman Reigns
