Liverpool Transfer News: Alex Teixeira Discussed by Jurgen Klopp, Latest Rumours
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted Liverpool have sufficient attacking options after the club opted out of making a deadline-day move for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira.
Anfield supporters may well be frustrated after seeing a third consecutive January transfer window pass them by without a signing, but Klopp moved to salve the fans' disappointment, per the Mirror's David Maddock:
"It’s very, very important that, yes, you can trust us,” he said. “It was a common decision (on Teixeira). We said, 'We can’t play this game until the end.' We made offers, I won’t say too much about that, but they were realistic, absolutely, with the premium of it being January, the Premier League, all the plusses you have when you make negotiations.
But it was a case of, 'If you don’t want it, okay, we can’t change the situation, both for now and the future.’ It’s not that we haven’t got money or anything, but you have to work respectfully and responsibly. That’s what we do. We will do things, for sure. Not in this window, but we will. It is like it is and it’s not you should buy and sell, buy and sell.

The Reds have gone through worrying patches in front of goal this season, with £32.5 million summer signing Christian Benteke failing to hit the ground running as hoped since his switch from Aston Villa.
However, with Daniel Sturridge en route to fitness and Danny Ings recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Klopp proclaimed his confidence that the current options are enough:
"We have enough strikers, if they are all fit. So we have four strikers – although some are injured - plus Roberto [Firmino, the attacking midfielder who has four goals in the last four games]. If we were to find a solution in the offence that helps us not for three weeks, but three months or more, I would say okay.
If we had, then we would’ve done it - but only for the right price, the normal price and not something else. The situation that we had wasn’t too easy but gave us the chance to show more faith and trust in young players than normal.
"
It shows an admirable restraint from Klopp that he isn't so willing to spend money purely for the sake of it, instead opting to place faith in his current squad, something that can only help the players' confidence.
The Liverpool Echo's Andy Kelly found cause to praise the former Borussia Dortmund coach for this pragmatic approach, particularly in the case of refusing to splash as much as £50 million on Teixeira:
"@ACorrigan80 clear and concise reasons why they acted as they did (price too high) and indication why Teixeira may not be right come summer

Klopp also has Belgium striker Divock Origi at his disposal, and after failing to score just twice in their last eight outings, it appears Liverpool's scoring fortunes could be looking up.
Firmino has had more time to settle on Merseyside since Klopp arrived at the Liverpool helm in October. However, Ben McAleer of WhoScored.com compared his improving form under the German compared to that seen under predecessor Brendan Rodgers:

Teixeira has scored 26 goals in 26 games for Shakhtar this season, but Liverpool may be proven right in choosing not to spend so big on a player who's untested in the English top flight.
Meanwhile, it was speculated late on transfer deadline day that the Reds could send former Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique back to St. James' Park, but a move failed to materialise.
According to Dan Lucas and Adam Hurrey of the Telegraph, the Magpies pulled out of making a last-minute move for their former star.
Enrique—who has yet to make a Premier League appearance for Liverpool this season—will therefore see out the remaining six months of his Liverpool limbo at Anfield and is expected to leave on a free in the summer.
