Millsap Will Miss First 2 Games of Preseason

Tuesday, Sept. 22

Millsap will return to full basketball activity in three weeks, per NBA.com.

“After reviewing the options with Paul to treat his knee and provide him the best long-term care, we agreed, largely due to the time of year, that this was the best method and time to ensure his complete readiness for the start of the regular season,” president of basketball operations and head coach Mike Budenholzer said.

Millsap doesn't receive nearly enough credit nationally for his play. He's a driving force for the Hawks at both ends of the floor, as evidenced by the fact he rates as one of the league's best power forwards in Player Efficiency Rating, according to ESPN.com.

The Louisiana Tech product is also one of the league's most durable players. He's never missed more than nine games in any season since getting drafted in 2006. That said, he did battle through an ankle issue last season while playing 81 games.

If he's forced out of the lineup, Mike Scott and Tiago Splitter both figure to see a noticeable uptick in minutes in order the fill the void. It could also lead to more opportunities for Kris Humphries until the team's starter returns.

Budenholzer will probably test out various lineups, but it's unlikely the Hawks will be anywhere near as effective until Millsap is back to full strength.
