Bogut Has Dealt with Extensive Injury Issues During Career
The Mavericks acquired Bogut from the Golden State Warriors in July to fill their void at center alongside Dirk Nowitzki in the frontcourt. While he's not a major producer statistically at this stage of his career, Bogut is still a defensive anchor in the paint.
The 32-year-old Utah product is no stranger to dealing with a variety of ailments given his extensive injury history since joining the NBA. With that said, he stayed mostly healthy last year with the Warriors, though some back spasms popped up at times.
With Bogut out, Salah Mejri figures to step into the starting lineup. It could also lead to a more extensive role for rookie A.J. Hammons, who Dallas hopes will develop into a valuable rotation asset over time, and Dwight Powell.
Ultimately, it's no longer a surprise when Bogut misses time, though it's still a notable setback for the Mavs. The most noticeable difference figures to come on the defensive end, where Dallas will now be susceptible to teams with reliable low-post scorers.
