WWE's Top Stories, Rumors and Buzz for Week of November 28

The Doctor Chris MuellerNov 28, 2015

With Survivor Series airing November 22, you would expect most of the big stories to revolve around the pay-per-view, but that's not the case this week. Let's look at what's been going on in WWE over the past seven days.

Lana Has Heat

Rusev returned to the ring recently, but Lana wasn't at his side. She is still recovering from a wrist injury, but there are also reports flying around that she is in the doghouse.

According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer (h/t Wrestlezone.com), Lana has major heat right now for leaking her engagement to Rusev and for attempting to start a feud with Paige through Twitter by calling her a bully. Summer Rae addressed the matter on Twitter without mentioning anyone by name.

Both of these seem like minor offenses to viewers, but management always has a vision for how things should go, and taking it upon yourself to ruin storylines or make them up by yourself is a problem.

Lana is a great manager for Rusev, but she doesn't have the kind of pull backstage to do whatever she wants. From this point forward, she needs to be a good soldier and do what she's told if she hopes to return once her wrist is healed.

Brad Maddox Released

According to WWE.com, Brad Maddox was released from his contract. This ends what has been a strange journey for the former Raw general manager.

Maddox began with WWE in 2008 in the developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). He also spent some time in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) before being brought to the main roster as a referee, but he was a plant. Maddox ended up costing Ryback a chance to be the WWE champion at Hell in a Cell 2012 against CM Punk.

The next few years saw him serve as Raw GM and as a wrestler, but he didn't have many matches on the main roster.

He only made a few televised appearances over the last year, so many were probably surprised to learn he still worked for the company when news of his release came out.

Maddox was a decent hand in the ring, but his size was his biggest issue. He wasn't a high-flyer, so he didn't have that to balance things out. Hopefully he finds a gig with another company, because he had the potential to be an entertaining character.

Roman Reigns and Sheamus Win WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the Same Night

The only way you don't know about this is if you missed every minute of WWE programming over the past week.

Roman Reigns won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after two grueling matches at Survivor Series, only to have the moment ripped away from him when Sheamus cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.

This is a smart move by management because it makes Reigns more sympathetic to the crowd. We've all heard crowds give him negative reactions as he entered big matches against popular heels, so WWE had to find a way to get the fans back on his side.

Reigns will continue to chase the championship, but we may see him take on some non-title feuds over the next few months to build up his credibility.

Sheamus makes a great heel champion; he is one of the few bad guys who can generate real heat. In an era where fans cheer for whoever they want, that is a rare commodity. Even if he ends up being a transitional champion, he will do some great things with the title.

Cesaro to Miss 4-6 Months Due to Injury

Ryan Pappolla of WWE.com confirmed through an interview with Cesaro that he has suffered a shoulder injury that will take him out of action for several months. Here is what Cesaro had to say about his situation:

"

I just want to come back as soon as possible. I felt I was building a lot of momentum, and that was all thanks to the fans. I really appreciate all the support I’ve gotten and I’ve felt that the Cesaro Section is finally rising and it’s becoming undeniable … and then, of course, this happens.

It’s funny, because I am having the surgery on the day we are in Nashville, Tenn. [for Raw], which is where the Cesaro Section originated. I was actually expecting a big Cesaro Section tonight, and I’m sure they’ll be there. Unfortunately, I’ll be getting out of surgery. [Laughs]

"

This is sad news for the Cesaro section, as the Swiss Superman had been featured regularly on television and had been on the cusp of a big push.

It sounds like the injury isn't career-threatening, so we should see him back in the ring doing his thing before long. Let's just hope he's ready to return before WrestleMania 32.

Sami Zayn Advertised to Return Soon

If you watched Wednesday's episode of NXT, then you saw a video package hyping the return of Sami Zayn after several months of being off the show due to an injury.

This is great news, as Zayn is one of the most popular and talented Superstars in NXT, and his return will open the door for some new feuds with stars who have emerged in his absence.

Guys like Finn Balor, Samoa Joe and Apollo Crews could have incredible matches with Zayn, and there's a good chance we'll see some of those combinations before he eventually moves to the main roster.

His reign as NXT champion was short in comparison to that of most other champions, so he will be looking to regain the title and hold on to it for a long time. Then again, WWE may have plans to bring him to the main roster sooner than expected.

It's been an interesting week for WWE news. Hopefully next week doesn't see anyone else wind up on the shelf with an injury.
