Seth Rollins Injury Update: WWE Superstar Comments on Surgery, Recovery and More
WWE Superstar Seth Rollins suffered ACL, MCL and medial meniscus tears during a recent match in Dublin, Ireland, according to ESPN's Jonathan Coachman, which are expected to sideline the world heavyweight champion for six to nine months.
However, despite the debilitating blow to Rollins' short-term prospects, he appeared upbeat in a recent interview with WWE.com's Ryan Pappolla.
Although he's slated to undergo reconstructive surgery Tuesday, per Pappolla, Rollins isn't letting the devastating injury dampen his spirits:
"You know, overall, I think I’m in a pretty good spot. Physically, my knee doesn’t hurt. Like, one thing people don’t understand, a common question is, "How much pain are you in?" The ligaments don’t have nerve endings, so, that’s a good thing and a bad thing, but I don’t feel any pain, it’s just a lot of instability in the knee capsule. So, I’m doing a lot of compression to kind of reduce the swelling and stuff like that. Emotionally … could be better. Obviously it’s a tough spot to be in. I’m mostly just looking forward to getting the surgery done and getting better every day.
"
Rollins later broke down the injury in great detail and explained that it occurred on a routine progression within the match.
"I landed underneath him and then picked him up for a Powerbomb," Rollins said, per Pappolla."And for whatever reason, I just landed on the inside of my right foot, instead of flat with my feet and my knee gave."
With Rollins out, WWE announced it will hold a tournament Nov. 22 at Survivor Series to determine a new champion.
However, it's clear the sport will miss the 29-year-old as he gets set to undergo a lengthy rehabilitation process. Rollins has been a polarizing figure in the middle of the WWE Universe since capturing the world heavyweight championship at Wrestlemania 31, and the injury may prevent him from playing a significant role at Wrestlemania 32.
Rollins' recovery timetable would peg his earliest return date somewhere in mid-to-late April, so the odds of his showing up at the April 3 showcase in Dallas, Texas, figure to be bleak.
With that said, it's good to see Rollins rolling with the punches and maintaining a positive outlook after suffering a gruesome injury at the high point of his career.
