Floyd Has Surgery to Repair Torn Meniscus
Friday, Sept. 23
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the procedure was a meniscus trim. As a result, he should be out "roughly six weeks."
The team announced the details of the operation Friday.
Floyd has steadily developed into a crucial piece of the Vikings defensive line since the team selected him in the first round of the 2013 draft. He's a versatile tackle, capable of both stuffing the run or getting after the quarterback, allowing him to play in any situation.
Although he's only missed a handful of games so far in his career, he's battled through numerous minor ailments in order to stay on the field. He did some miss time last season due to a combination of knee and ankle problems, though.
With Floyd sidelined, Tom Johnson is likely to get the first crack at replacing him in the starting lineup. Shamar Stephen also figures to pick up some additional snaps as part of a rotation next to Linval Joseph.
That said, the Vikings defense definitely takes a hit if Floyd isn't on the field. He's an underappreciated piece of the puzzle.
