Ex-Barca Star Xavi Says Manchester United Is His Favourite Premier League Team
Barcelona legend Xavi has said he would have picked Manchester United over Liverpool if he were to choose a club in the Premier League to play for.
Speaking to Eurosport (h/t the MailOnline) the Spanish star spoke of the attraction of the Premier League and said United edge the Merseysiders as his favourite team in England.
"To be honest, the Premier League is a big attraction for any player. It's brilliant—the stadiums, the pitches, the fans and how they live football over there—it's all incredible over there. There are many great sides like Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool. If I had to select one, it would have to be a club with a great history; maybe Manchester United or Liverpool. I know that there are clubs who have emerged quite recently, like Manchester City for example, but United is my favourite historically speaking.
"
Xavi left Barcelona for Qatari side Al Sadd earlier this year.
Former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign the midfielder in 2008 but was kept at bay by then-Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.
He won eight league titles and four Champions League trophies with Barcelona and picked up World Cup and European Championship winners' medal with Spain.
