WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from September 30

Erik BeastonSep 30, 2015

The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic continued Wednesday night with a huge main event pitting Samoa Joe and NXT champion Finn Balor against Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, and now you can find out how it graded with all of the results and analysis from the September 30 WWE Network broadcast of NXT.

Both teams were jockeying for the opportunity to advance in the tournament, but it was Balor and Joe who emerged victoriously.

Tag team action was not only relegated to the men, as Dana Brooke and Emma built upon last week's humiliation of newcomer Asuka by defeating the upstart tandem of Peyton Royce and Billie Kay.

Tommaso Ciampa returned to the NXT ring, squaring off with Tyler Breeze. Unlike the last time he and Prince Pretty shared the ring, things did not quite go his way, as he suffered a disappointing defeat.

Finally, Apollo Crews prepared for his TakeOver: Respect match with Breeze by knocking off Johnny Gargano.

On a night when the brand presented its final broadcast prior to next Wednesday's monumental live event spectacular, the Superstars and Divas of NXT continued to provide fans with one of the most enjoyable and entertaining shows in wrestling.

This is how each match fared with this writer.

Finn Balor and Samoa Joe vs. Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore

1 of 4

The huge Dusty Rhodes Classic match kicked off this week's program with a bang as four of the most talented stars on the brand competed for the right to move on to the next round of the tournament.

Big Cass and Enzo Amore found themselves in unfamiliar territory for the majority bout, controlling the action and wearing down Samoa Joe. A counter of the Rocket Launcher into the Muscle Buster by Joe and the Coup De Grace completed the comeback for the NXT champion Finn Balor and his partner.

Analysis

This should have been so much more, especially considering the overwhelming popularity of the competitors involved. Instead, it was a seven-minute sprint that featured some solid action but nothing out of the ordinary.

It was interesting to see Amore and Cassady control a match for once, especially since Enzo typically finds himself the babyface in peril.

Overall, it was a quality start to the broadcast but one that will hardly be remembered by the end of the show.

Apollo Crews vs. Johnny Gargano

2 of 4

Johnny Gargano was impressive in his first shot at singles glory, outwrestling explosive newcomer Apollo Crews for the majority of Wednesday's match.

Unfortunately for the star of various independent promotions, he allowed Crews to seize an opportunity and mount a comeback. A series of clotheslines, a gorilla press slam and the standing moonsault from Crews scored him the victory.

Analysis

One of the best things Creative has managed to do with Crews is have him win matches against legitimate contenders, rather than squashing fools the way Baron Corbin did for a year. Gargano has credibility thanks to his days spent on the independents, as does Solomon Crowe, whom Crews beat previously.

He has been impressive and has proven the ability to sell, something that will serve him well going forward.

Peyton Royce and Billie Kay vs. Dana Brooke and Emma

3 of 4

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce benefited from a heel tandem too concerned with the earlier announcement that Dana Brooke will square off with Asuka at TakeOver next week, scoring a few near-falls early in the bout.

The more established Divas took over control shortly thereafter, though, with Brooke thwarting a late-match comeback from Royce to score the pinfall victory with her sit-out Death Valley driver finisher.

Analysis

This was exactly what it needed to be, which is a showcase for Brooke. The former fitness-model-turned-NXT Diva has a high-profile match on next week's show and really needed to look impressive heading into it.

Especially since few will actually believe she will win said match.

Royce and Kay continue to impress as spunky babyfaces fighting from underneath. With the Divas division rebuilding, they will have their turn to make an impression on fans, but for now, they have filled their role of glorified jobbers to perfection.

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Tyler Breeze

4 of 4

Former Ring of Honor star Tommaso Ciampa returned to the NXT ring, squaring off with Tyler Breeze in Wednesday's main event.

Breeze thwarted an early onslaught from his opponent, grounding him and working him over with a front facelock. Ciampa would fight back as the match became somewhat clunky and disjointed.

Minutes later, Breeze delivered a version of Christian's Killswitch to pick up the pinfall victory.

Analysis

This was...ugly.

Not necessary bad, but ugly, as neither competitor seemed to know what the other was going to do, leading to some truly nasty-looking spots.

Breeze really needed a stronger showing here, especially as he prepares to face Apollo Crews next Wednesday night. Unfortunately, he did not get it here.

Then there is Ciampa, who failed to impress in the same ways that Johnny Gargano did earlier, putting a huge question mark on his prospects with the company going forward.
