Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Real Madrid in their midweek La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames Stadium.

The France striker pounced on a sloppy back pass to beat the goalkeeper and secure an early lead for the visitors.

But Athletic found a way to hit back in the second half, with Sabin Merino pulling off a sharp diving header to finally beat Keylor Navas.

The goal meant that by just minutes, Navas was denied the record for longest spell without conceding by a Real Madrid goalkeep.
