Arthur Jones Injury: Updates on Colts DT's Ankle and Return

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Arthur Jones was limited to just nine games in 2014, and the 29-year-old may miss the entire season after hurting his ankle on Aug. 29 against the St. Louis Rams. Jones underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his ankle on Friday.

Jones' Season in Jeopardy

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported Jones is likely out for the season following ankle surgery.

On Sept. 2, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Jones' best-case scenario after surgery was to be placed on IR with a designation to return. Rapoport added the defensive tackle saw multiple doctors, and noted there could be joint damage, although they won't know for sure until after surgery. 

A high ankle sprain kept Jones out of action last year; however, that injury was to his left ankle, so this isn't an aggravation of a previous injury.

Losing the big tackle is a blow to the Colts; Jones provided run-stopping and line-clogging power in the middle when healthy, and Indy will need to find solid production to bolster a defense that ranked 18th in rushing yards per game allowed last season.

With Jones out of action, Indy will likely look to Zach Kerr and Jeris Pendleton to take more snaps to compensate for his absence.
