Carroll Comments on Lockett's Recovery

Monday, Jan. 16

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Lockett is expected back for the start of next season.

Lockett Undergoes Surgery

Monday, Dec. 26

Carroll told reporters Lockett "had a great surgery" and will be able to move around in four to six weeks.

Carroll added the team will monitor for a potential infection because the bone punctured the skin. Carroll noted Lockett should be back on the field for training camp in the summer, per John Boyle of Seahawks.com.

Wilson Comments on Lockett's Injury

Saturday, Dec. 24

"There was blood everywhere near his ankle," quarterback Russell Wilson said after the game, per Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com. Wilson noted the injury shook up the Seahawks players.

Carroll Emerged as Valuable Target for Wilson

The Seahawks spent a 2015 third-round pick on Lockett, who didn't waste much time justifying their decision. As a rookie, Lockett caught 51 passes for 664 yards (13 yards per reception) and six touchdowns.

"I think Tyler is a really, really exceptional football player, and he demonstrated that. That's no big step to go there," Carroll said in February, according to Kapadia. "He had a great football season, and he's an impact, he's a Pro Bowl, he's an All-Pro returner that can make things happen from the receiver spot.

For the season, Lockett amassed 41 catches for 597 yards and one score.

While Doug Baldwin, Jimmy Graham and Jermaine Kearse have long been steady targets for Wilson, Lockett offers Seattle's offense a different dimension thanks to his downfield playmaking abilities. Not only has he consistently been a threat to blow the top off opposing defenses, but his speed has helped stretch the field and open things up for Seattle's other receivers.
