Rob Gronkowski Channels His Inner WWE Superstar as 'Gronkasaurus'

Brian MaziqueAug 21, 2015

WWE SummerSlam weekend is upon us, and there are obviously people outside of the WWE universe who are already in the spirit. Non-wrestling athletes admire the performers from the WWE and other wrestling organizations. Every once in a while, we get to see them live out their wrestling fantasies in public.

The New England Patriots' Rob Gronkowski may be a new-era tight end, but he's clearly an old-school wrestling fan. In this video we pulled from BodyArmor's YouTube channel, Gronk takes it back to the 1980s in a comical tribute to a golden era of professional wrestling.

The video is apparently an outtake from a larger production from the company's "This is Now" shoot earlier this summer.

After one look at Gronk's performance on the microphone and his getup, there's no question the pass-catching wizard could have a future in the WWE. He might have to change his name, though. The Gronkasaurus would be one of the lamest nicknames in wrestling history. It would easily beat out Koko B. Ware, The Honky Tonk Man and The Blue Meanie.

Gronk is definitely in shape for the business. Based on physical appearance, he could climb into any WWE ring, and no one would bat an eye or think he looked out of place.

When you combine the tassels on his arms with the vivid colors and energetic delivery, Gronk's faux promo gives us a combination of the late Randy "Macho Man" Savage and The Ultimate Warrior. In true Gronk style, the bit is fairly entertaining. There's even a Ric Flair-like "woo" injected for good measure.

I'm totally convinced he and Flair let that out when they need a second to think of what to say next.

Perhaps the best line in the rant comes when Gronkowski says he scares children "who aren't even old enough to see properly yet." That's pretty interesting. Would that make him a heel or a face? You would think a guy who's scaring infant children would have to be considered a bad guy.

In any case, if you haven't taken a look at the video above yet, feast your eyes on the latest example of Gronk being Gronk.
