AI or Melo? No! Mavs fans want Ron Artest
I was listening to a podcast today, and a writer that I respect from the Dallas area talked about the possibility (which he thought was highly unlikely) of either Carmelo Anthony or Allen Iverson joining the Dallas Mavericks.Ā
With either scenario, the Mavs would keep Dirk Nowitzki and have to move Jason Kidd to the Nuggets.Ā Remember, neither move would be likely.
Would Carmelo fit?Ā My gut says, "Yes!!"Ā
Give me a crunch-time scorer, not a one-dimensional player, butĀ a true scorer.Ā That's something that Dallas does not have outside of Dirk (and it's not his forte) and Jason Terry when he's hot in the fourth quarter.Ā
What's the downside?Ā Melo would only worsen the Mavs shaky perimeter defense, and with the Josh Howard pot-smoking controversy, the Mavs don't need to have to address Carmelo's off-court issues.
Would AI fit?Ā Once again, my gut says, "Yes!!!"Ā
He is a scorer as well, can play D (I didn't say he does), and he can distribute the ball at the point for stints.Ā
What's wrong with this?Ā Issues, although I don't think his issues are as relevant now, the death of his defensive game in Denver, which could be from playing on the Nuggets 2.0, and the idea that Dirk doesn't play as well with score-first point guards.Ā
I like seeing the way Dirk has played with Kidd, but this idea would benefit Dallas much more than the Melo scenario.
My favorite idea?Ā Ron Artest.Ā
He's an athlete, a defender, a scorer, and an alpha male.Ā That sounds like everything the Mavs have been missing forever.Ā He's played with Rick Carlisle before and was an All-Star (when he wasn't suspended).Ā
Let the Nuggets keep Melo and AI.Ā Give me Ron Artest and another shot at a title.
