The current season appears to be one of potential records. Whilst Werder’s Peruvian goal-getter Claudio Pizarro is hunting for one record, Leverkusen’s Stefan Kiessling might gain another record this weekend.

The 25-year-old forward has scored a goal in every league game so far this season. If he scores during Leverkusen’s fixture versus Werder Bremen this weekend, he becomes the only player in the Bundesliga-history to score in six consecutive games straight from the start of the season.

Currently, Kiessling shares this record with several renowned names, for example Dimitar Berbatov, Fredi Bobic and Carsten Jancker, but another goal this weekend would mean he overtakes these renowned names.

Kiessling embodies and leads Jupp Heynkes’ new Leverkusen team with his no-nonsense approach to the game and his lethal performances in front of goal. With four wins and a draw, Leverkusen shares the position atop the Bundesliga with HSV from Hamburg.

With his recent performances, the Leverkusen striker increases pressure on national team manager Joachim Löw to include him in the national team. Kiessling was not called up for the recent international fixtures versus South Africa and Azerbaijan, leading to the media and fans criticizing the manager.

Kiessling meanwhile hasn’t really changed his ways, he lets his boots do the talking for him. Well, maybe he has changed a little bit. He promised not to shave as long as he keeps scoring and his beard is growing every week.
