Spiars' Quick Picks: UFC Fight Night 19

Sterling SpiarsAnalyst ISeptember 13, 2009

For some reason, there have been bloody screams about the main event, as well as the entire card; the fans need to remember that they won't see Anderson Silva defend his belt on free television. They won't get to see a war between two legends of MMA like Nogueira and Couture, instead they'll see what could be the future studs of the sport.

UFC Fight Night 19 features a young class of rising prospects of the UFC's lighter divisions.

Main Card

Nate Diaz (10-4) vs. Melvin Guillard (41-8-3)- Melvin Guillard

Diaz has dropped his last two fights to larger, much stronger wrestlers. Although Guillard doesn't carry the credentials of Diaz's last two opponents, he is still skilled in the area of wrestling. Diaz might struggle in his game plan of taking Guillard down, which may leave himself open for a power shot at the hands of "The Young Assassin," Melvin Guillard.

Gray Maynard (7-0) vs. Roger Huerta (20-2-1)- Gray Maynard

It's hard to count out Huerta in this one, but the former lightweight prospect has had his mind elsewhere in Hollywood. Gray Maynard is very skilled in the ground game, which is exactly where Huerta tends to struggle.

It appears that "The Bully" will ground-and-pound his way to victory and into the heart of Dana White, who is notoriously brash towards fighters that leave the UFC.

Carlos Condit (23-5) vs. Jake Ellenberger (21-4)- Carlos Condit

Condit fell short in his UFC debut, a some what controversial split decision loss to Martin Kampmann. Condit hopes to rebound against UFC new-comer, Jake Ellenberger.

Ellenberger's wrestling may prove to be a difficult task for Condit, but the striking of the "Natural Born Killer" may be enough to keep Ellenberger on his toes and out of shooting range.

Tim Credeur (12-2) vs. Nate Quarry (11-3)- Tim Credeur

TUF 7 cast member, Tim Credeur has proved himself to be a fighter that can finish the fight whether by knock out or submission. Nate Quarry will be the toughest fight of Credeur's career, but his all around skills could be enough to put Quarry on his back. If this happens, Quarry has a great chance of losing this fight.

Preliminary Card

Steve Cantwell (7-2) vs. Brian Stann (6-2)- Steve Cantwell

Mike Pyle (17-6-1) vs. Chris Wilson (14-5)- Mike Pyle

C.B. Dollaway (8-2) vs. Jay Silva (5-1)- Jay Silva

Phillipe Nover (5-2-1) vs. Sam Stout (14-5-1)- Sam Stout

Justin Bucholz (8-3) vs. Jeremy Stephens (15-5)- Jeremy Stephens

Brock Larson (26-2) vs. Mike Pierce (9-1)- Brock Larson

Ryan Jensen (13-5) vs. Steven Steinbeiss (4-2)- Steven Steinbeiss
