UFC 190: 6 Reasons to Watch Rousey vs. Correia Fight Card

Dan HiergesellJul 27, 2015

UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is undefeated inside of the cage, but so is top contender Bethe Correia.

Both women will put their unmarked records on the line this Saturday at UFC 190 in Brazil, which will be the first time Rousey has fought outside of the U.S. since a short 150-pound outing in Canada back in 2011.

It will also serve as her sixth straight UFC title defense and third overall opposite an undefeated opponent (Cat Zingano at UFC 184 and Sara McMann at UFC 170).

Needless to say, Rousey has a knack for finishing fights quickly while making divisional winners taste defeat for the first time.

But besides the anticipated grudge match atop a division running out of noteworthy title chasers, this weekend will feature a surplus of Octagon conflict and intrigue.

Here are six reasons to tune in to witness UFC 190 and one of the best all-around Brazil cards of 2015.

Magny's Improbable Climb

1 of 6

Neil Magny's UFC 190 tilt may not be part of the pay-per-view main card, but his welterweight evolution will be on full display opposite veteran Demian Maia on the Fox Sports 1 prelims.

It will be Magny's third fight of 2015 after winning five straight last year. He'll attempt to extend his overall winning streak to an astounding eight.

Maia is most certainly his toughest task to date, especially considering the forever relevant 37-year-old has compiled a career 6-1 record (only losing to Jake Shields back in 2013) when fighting in his home country.

But that doesn't mean Magny cannot overwhelm the Brazilian with his long, eight-inch reach advantage, penetrating jabs and elevated athleticism in order to build on an already impressive UFC career.

It should be noted that Maia hasn't been finished inside of the Octagon since a knockout loss to Nate "Once Was Great" Marquardt back in 2009 at UFC 102.

TUF Finals

2 of 6

It's always worth watching when reality-show rights are on the line.

UFC 190 will be another chance for fans to witness winners of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 4 be crowned on a night that features some of the best martial artists in the country's history.

The opening finale fight will feature submission experts Dileno Lopes and Reginaldo Vieira, who have a chance to stand out in a bantamweight division offering little depth at the top.

The second TUF scrap will encompass a lightweight showdown between Nova Uniao's Fernando Bruno and skilled finisher Glaico Franca, which has the potential for Fight of the Night.

Either way you split it, this is easily one of the best sets of TUF finale fights throughout Brazil's four seasons.

Aguilar's Debut

3 of 6

Promotional newcomer Jessica Aguilar is a world champion with a 19-4 record who hasn't been finished since her pro debut back in 2006.

Many people may not have heard of JAG since her journey has revolved around organizations like World Series of Fighting and Bellator, but she is finally on full display in the biggest MMA outfit around.

And to much surprise, UFC matchmaker Joe Silva wasted no time in seeing how good the 33-year-old strawweight can be, since she is set to take on divisional standout Claudia Gadelha (who nearly defeated current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk back at UFC on Fox 13) this weekend at UFC 190.

It will be one of her toughest opponents to date, but American Top Team's Aguilar has been overcoming obstacles her entire career, cementing victories over Megumi Fujii and Carla Esparza in the process.

A win this Saturday could spell an immediate title opportunity for the former WSOF queen.

Bigfoot vs. The Hulk

4 of 6

Based on nicknames alone, this is a matchup for the ages.

But when you dive into the recent quarrels of both Antonio Silva and Soa Palelei, desperation becomes the tagline for their heavyweight collision Saturday night.

Silva has unexpectedly compiled a 0-2-1 (1 NC) record over his last three matches since fighting for the heavyweight championship just over two years ago.

As for Palelei, a guy who has impressively won four of his five UFC appearances, defeating a guy like Silva (in front of a Brazilian crowd to boot) will be the notch in his belt he needs to move into the Top 15.

And considering they offer a combined 31 career knockouts, Bigfoot vs. The Hulk will be a slugfest to the bitter end.

A Double Shot of Nogueira

5 of 6

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and younger brother Antonio Rogerio Nogueira are Brazilian royalty.

Now while Minotauro and Little Nog may not be the trailblazing title threats that they once were, their eminence is not necessarily bound by relevance.

In other words, it is a spectacle of many kinds when either brother steps inside of the Octagon, let alone both on the same night.

Fellow MMA legend Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and resurgent heavyweight Stefan Struve stand in the way of glory, but the timeless twins have the ability to turn back the clock and reign supreme at UFC 190.

Heck, it may even be the last time we see one of them, if not both.

Rousey vs. Brazil

6 of 6

Ronda Rousey is making it a point to dismantle undefeated Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in Brazil.

She is taking it upon herself to challenge her own ability to defeat the menacing contender at the doorstep of an entire country.

But what makes this even more interesting is that Correia represents the last top name in the division that the bantamweight queen has yet to defeat.

After her, Rousey would have cleaned out the 135-pound roster and would start to recycle deserving top contenders, such as nemesis Miesha Tate (who has No. 1 contender rights).

Needless to say, this is yet another opportunity to witness greatness at its finest. It will be another chapter in Rousey's storybook career.

Of course, Correia's heavy hands could land en route to spoiling a champion's quest for career perfection.
