NASCAR Truck Series at Eldora 2015 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction
There were cautions galore, but Christopher Bell held off pole-winner Bobby Pierce to take home a victory at the NASCAR Truck Series' 1-800-Car Cash Mud Summer Classic Wednesday evening at Eldora raceway.ย
The win was the first of Bell's NASCAR Truck Series career, but his achievement shouldn't come as a surprise considering he entered one of the year's biggest races with experience galore on dirt tracks.
According to the NASCAR Wire Service (via Sporting News), Bell "logged 24 feature wins on dirt last season in non-NASCAR action."ย
After riding off with the checkered flag in tow, Bell took to Victory Lane to celebrate his first career Truck Series win, as NASCARย Trucks relayed on Twitter:ย
Here's a rundown of where the top drivers finished:

Entering the race, Bell knew he stood a good chance against big names like Austin Dillon and Brad Keselowski.ย
"The track record at Eldora in a sprint car is about 12.7 seconds, so to be running around there in sub 13-second laps and then go there in a truck where the quick time was a 19.9 last year, it's much slower than the sprint cars ran," Bell said, according to the NASCARย Wire Service. "I think having run that fast there in a sprint car will definitely translate to running the truck there because it will slow everything down."
Bell led for 103 laps, but Pierce applied some serious pressure down the stretch, as NASCARย on Fox documented:ย
And although Pierce couldn't make one final pass of Bell following a late restart, he was simply beaming after the second-place finish, as his post-race interview with Fox Sports 1 indicated:ย
As NASCAR Trucks noted, the No. 54 car has been the one to beat each of the past two years thanks to Darrell Wallace Jr.'s victory in 2014:
NASCARย drivers Kyle Busch and Joey Logano came away impressed by the race's two stars during a race that was filled with tense moments: ย
Jeb Burton was also enthralled by the evening's action, and he noted the race's 13 cautionsโa new record for the event, according to NASCAR.comโdidn't deprive the race of drama:ย
Wednesday evening also marked Keselowski's inaugural race on a dirt track in formal competition. However, he failed to lead a lap and struggled to keep pace, as Fox Sports' Jay Pennell observed:
"Driving his No. 29 Ford, Keselowski tried to gamble on pit strategy to get to the front of the field, but could not stay with the leaders. With less than 15 laps to go, Keselowski slid his truck into the corner, could not catch the rear end and hit the outside wall hard. The contact caused major damage to the right rear of Keselowski's truck, forcing him to pit road. Keselowski would finish 28th.ย ย
"
When all was said and done, there were nine lead changes and five total leadersโincluding Bell, Pierce (37 laps),ย Dillon (eight laps),ย John Hunter Nemechek (one lap)ย andย Cole Custer (two laps).ย ย
Bell blitzed his competitors when it came to velocity, with his best speed clocking in atย 80.361 mph. That mark came in 1.32 mph better than Pierce's second-best tally (79.041 mph).ย ย
While Bell's just getting started on the Truck Series circuit, the fact that he captured a victory in his third-ever start shouldย heightenย expectations moving forward. ย
Bell and the rest of his peers are slated to be back in action next weekend at Pocono Raceway for the Pocono Mountains 150 on August 1.
And with a thriller at Eldora in the rear-view mirror, Pocono has awfully high standards to live up to. ย
