Will We Ever See Another Attitude Era in the WWE?

The Attitude Era is considered by many to be what won the Monday Night Wars with WCW.

With the introduction of guys like Stone Cold and The Rock, as well as teams like The Hardys and Edge and Christian, we saw new death-defying moves and unconventional story lines.

The WWE has since softened their image to a more kid-friendly show.

If you ask me, a show that portrays a guy with a sledge hammer going after other guys is just not kid-friendly.

Wrestling became a family staple in the 80s with guys like Hogan and Savage leading the way. It was portrayed in a more comic-book style fashion with over-the-top characters and ridiculous matches.

The management team at Titan Towers has decided that in order to be successful, we have to attract kids.

While that statement may be somewhat true, its doesn't address the fact that more and more adults are beginning to walk away from the ridiculousness of Hornswoggle or the insanity of having a guy like Big Show not killing everyone he steps in the ring to face.

The WWE has taken a hit in ratings since the end of the Monday Night Wars. While they used to draw anywhere from 4.5-5.5 ratings in 2000, they are now in the 3.0-3.5 range.

What the WWE needs right now is two things, some new guys to step up and take the spotlight, and some new material.

I have been noticing story lines oddly similar to those I have seen in the past being used again recently and that shows that WWE has nothing new to offer.

With the recent departure of Jeff Hardy, the suspension of Rey Mysterio and the possible retiring of Michaels and Batista this year, what will they do?

HHH is on the tail end of his healthy career and the Undertaker can only keep up with his own pace for so long.

Guys like Shelton Benjamin, John Morrison, and Evan Bourne are the future of sports entertainment.

We have seen how funny Morrison can be on his old WWE.com show, we have seen how athletic Shelton Benjamin is, and we have seen some innovation from Bourne.

If the WWE ever wants to be the juggernaut that they were 10 years ago, then they need to can the kiddie stuff and go with more realistic storylines.
