What a Week Of Sport! Avram Grant Bids Farewell To Chelsea F.C
What a week of sport we have had this past week! And it's not over yet!
Starting with last Saturday, we had one of the highlights of the footballing calender: the FA Cup final. And it was an extra special one, with two unexpected teams in the final.
Then, midweek, who could forget the Champions League final? The biggest game between two English club teams ever. And in case you've been living in a cave since Wednesday morning, Man Utd came out on top in that match.
Throughout the week, there has been cricket on between England and New Zealand as well, with New Zealand battling to a draw in the first match, and currently having the upper hand in the second.
Daryl Hair made a well publicised return to umpiring during this match, after his infamous incident with Pakistan.
However, today has to be the day of the week as far as sporting events are concerned.
We saw one of the most intriguing Scottish Cup finals of recent times, with two teams in two very different situations battling for the cup.
On the one hand you had Rangers, a team who had, just days earlier, lost the SPL crown to arch-rivals Celtic, when a few weeks ago it seemed almost certain to be theirs.
Following the fixture congestion due to their run to the UEFA Cup final, Rangers approached this game having played six games in fourteen days.
In stark contrast, minnows Queen of the South hadn't played a football match in four weeks, since their season finished!
And the Queen of the South nearly got it, after clawing their way back from a two goal deficit, but they couldn't hang onto the draw, and Rangers at least came away from this potential quadruple season with the double.
Also today was the richest game in world football: The Championship Playoff final. Hull came out on top through veteran Dean Windass' strike, a £60m swing of the boot.
And the weekend will pick up where the week left off, with the other two Football League playoff finals.
In Rugby Union, the final of the Heineken Cup took place today, with Munster grabbing the title from Toulouse. It's the second time that Munster have won this trophy, the equivalent of the Champions League, the first being in 2006, and both times they have done it in Cardiff against a French side.
And the week is not yet over!
Tonight is a great night for boxing fans, with the headline fight being Ricky Hatton vs Juan Lazcano. This has been dubbed as "the homecoming", as Hatton will finally achieve his dream and fight at his beloved Manchester City's home ground—Eastlands.
In his first fight since his one and only defeat of his professional career, Hatton will be looking to impress and entertain the 55,000 in attendance. No fighter has ever been able to draw such a crowd in Manchester before—not even Joey Barton.
But although this has been a great week for us, for one man it has been possibly the worst week of his career.
No, it's not John Terry, but Avram Grant.
He was sacked earlier today, three days after his failure to come home from Russia as the Champions of Europe. I can't say I'm surprised; I half expected him to get sacked even if he did win the Champions League.
But I would be interested to know how Chelsea fans feel. I know that some felt resentment to him when he started. Who could take over from Jose Mourinho? An uncharismatic Israeli who few people had heard of? No way!
But he seems to have grown on the press and the fans, especially since his success in getting Chelsea to their first ever Champions League final.
So, what a week it's been! Let's just hope Hatton wins to put the icing on the cake
