The Gambler's Guide: Week 5 College Football Picks

John MossSep 29, 2007

So the debut of The Gambler's Guide was...a dud.

Two-for-Six is nothing to write home about, although my "Lock of the Week" was a hit.

Slow start or not, though, I'm back for Week Five of the college football season. Here's a look at today's key games...

Auburn @ #4 Florida

Favorite: Florida -18

Pick: Florida

Analysis

With "Showdown Saturday" next week, the Gators could be looking ahead to a huge matchup with second-ranked LSU—but Auburn's upset win over Florida last year will have the Gators ready to play.

The Tigers have to find an offensive rhythm if they want to hang with Tim Tebow and Co.

#6 California @ #11 Oregon

Favorite: Oregon -6.5

Pick: California

Analysis

This has the potential to be one of the most entertaining games of the year.

Both teams posses potent offenses—Oregon led by Dennis Dixon and Cal led by Super-Freak DeShawn Jackson. The difference here will be Cal's running game, which will keep Oregon's offense off the field.

Michigan State @ #9 Wisconsin

Favorite: Wisconsin -7.5

Pick: Michigan State

Analysis

Prior to last week's performance against Iowa, I would have picked the Badgers without question....but Sparty is rolling up in East Lansing, and Wisconsin has been anything but impressive.

I'm taking the running game of Michigan State to pull the upset at Camp Randall Stadium.

MSNLock of the Week: Kansas State @ #7 Texas

Favorite: Texas -14.5

Pick: Texas

Analysis

The Longhorns have been looking towards this game ever since being upset in Manhattan, Kansas, last year.

Colt McCoy is finally finding his groove, and his connection with Limas Sweed will be too much for the Wildcats to overcome.  Look for Texas to win big in a tuneup for next week's showdown with Oklahoma.
