Boston Celtics: Home Fried in Playoff Game
Back in December, the Detroit Pistons handed the Celtics their first home loss of the season. Led by Chauncey Billups' two free throws with a tenth of a second left, the Pistons won 87-85 at the Garden.
Last night, history repeated itself (sort of).
The Pistons needed free throws to seal the deal, but it was 'Sheed and the Prince who ensured victory for Detroit in their 103-97 victory to take home court advantage in the series. Now it gets interesting.
In order for the Celtics to make it to the NBA Finals, they have to win on the road, something they have not been able to do all postseason. In order for the Pistons to shock the world once again, they will have to win another one in Boston to clinch their spot.
Despite the loss, the Boston Three Party did their best to keep the game close.
Paul Pierce dropped 26 points, KG grabbed yet another double double (24 and 13), and Ray Allen broke out of his slump with a 25-point performance.
Detroit's "Four Horsemen" did their best to ensure the win, though.
Rip Hamilton made up for his mediocre performance on Tuesday night with 25 points, and Billups showed that not even an injury is going to slow him down by adding in 19 points and seven assists.
Tayshaun Prince chipped in 14, while Rasheed Wallace went another game without a technical foul, and threw in a double double (13 and 10).
The Pistons broke a six-game Conference Final slump by winning their first game since game two of last year's Final against Cleveland. This was the ninth game two victory since the 2006 playoffs.
Game three is Saturday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
It's time for one team to put up or shut up. It's time for the other to keep momentum going in their favor.
On the lighter side, this question is to the residents of Detroit: When you've got game three of the Eastern Conference Finals at home, and game one of the Stanley Cup Finals at Hockeytown, which one do you go and see?
