Georgia Football: 5 Most Consistent Players on the Bulldogs

Brian JonesJun 15, 2015

Consistency is the key to any aspect of life. Being consistent at work, school and even in the gym can really take a person places.

The same holds true in college football, because the most consistent teams will always be in the running for the national title. And in order for the Georgia Bulldogs to get where they want to go in 2015, they will need to be more consistent on offense, defense and special teams.

The talent on the Bulldogs roster is evident, and they will have a chance to win the SEC if things bounce their way. But they can’t be inconsistent like they were last season, which cost them three loses.

So here’s a look at the five most consistent players on the roster.

5. OT John Theus

Georgia's running game was potent last year because Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb were two of the best running backs in the country.

However, the offensive line was another big reason for the success of the rushing attack, and John Theus was the lineman who led the way.

Theus made his debut in 2012 and was named to the Freshman All-American team after making 14 starts. He made eight starts in 2013, earning All-SEC honors from Phil Steele after helping the offense score at least 23 points in 12 games. Last year, Theus made 13 starts and helped the Bulldogs average over 250 rushing yards per game.

He’s has been a solid run- and pass-blocker over the last three years and shows no signs of slowing down in 2015.

4. K Marshall Morgan

The Bulldogs have been fortunate to have great kickers play at Sanford Stadium over the decades. And while Marshall Morgan won’t go down as the best of the bunch, he's never had an issue making clutch kicks in big games.

Over his career, Morgan has made nine field goals from between 40 and 49 yards. He’s also made five field goals of 50 yards or more and only missed 13 field goals in three seasons, making 32-of-36 field goals inside the 40.

While 2014 was not as good a year as 2013, when he only missed two field goals, Morgan was earned All-SEC honors the last two seasons. With this being his final year, he could have a record-breaking season.

3. DE Sterling Bailey

3 of 5

If the Georgia defense wants to continue to improve, it will need a steady veteran to lead the way, and it has that in Sterling Bailey.

The senior defensive end has played in 29 games in three seasons, starting in nine of them. He has totaled 62 tackles, five pass break-ups and 15 quarterback pressures.

He’s not the best defensive lineman of the bunch, but he’s always in position to make plays, and he’s someone the other players can depend on if things aren’t going well.

With freshmen Jonathan Ledbetter and Trent Thompson in the mix this year, Sterling can teach them a lot about how to be a defensive lineman in the SEC.

2. OLB Jordan Jenkins

4 of 5

Having two good outside linebackers who can rush the passer is vital to a 3-4 scheme, and the Bulldogs are fortunate to have three such linebackers between Leonard Floyd, Jordan Jenkins and Lorenzo Carter.

Jenkins is another senior on the defense who the team can rely on, but he’s also one of the best outside linebackers in the country.

Each season, Jenkins has notched at least five sacks, and each season, his tackle total has increased. Jenkins has also forced and recovered at least one fumble in each of the last three years, and he had at least 23 quarterback pressures each season.

Like Morgan, this could be the year Jenkins has a huge season for the Bulldogs. But based on what he’s done over the last three years, he will have at least another All-SEC-caliber season.

1. OLB Leonard Floyd

5 of 5

The other outside linebacker, Leonard Floyd, could end up being better than Jenkins when it’s all said and done.

In 2013, Floyd led the Bulldogs with 6.5 sacks and was named to Phil Steele’s Freshman All-America team. In 2014, Floyd once again led the team with six sacks and was voted Georgia's defensive MVP by his teammates. He was also named to the AP Honorable Mention All-SEC team.

Floyd has also forced at least two fumbles and notched 17 quarterback pressures every season.

With Jenkins on the opposite side and Carter in the rotation, there is no reason Floyd can’t have a season to remember.
