Mario Lemieux Foundation to Sponsor Penguins Watch Parties for Finals Road Games
While the Detroit Red Wings are struggling to put people in the seats at Joe Louis ArenaĀ when there are games actually going on, the Pittsburgh Penguins can't seem to keep fans away from the Mellon Arena.
Even when the Pens are out of town.
The large viewing screen outside of Mellon Arena has consistently attracted anywhere from 1,000-3,000 fans throughout the first three rounds of the playoffs. The atmosphere outside of the arena can be just as exciting as the one inside.

Fans have taken a liking to the outdoor screen, so the Penguins thought; if 3,000 people showed up and sat outside to watch the game, how many more would show up if we let them come inside?
The Pittsburgh Penguins have begun to sell tickets for fans to watch games one and two of the Stanley Cup Finals at the Mellon Arena. Both games will be played in Detroit.
Ticket prices are just $5 and all proceeds will benefit the Mario Lemieux Foundation, a charity in Pittsburgh that deals mainly with children or young adults with serious illnesses.
Parking will be free in all arena lots, and all concession and novelty stands will operate just like a normal game day.
The team has opted not to operate the outdoor screen for road games during the Finals, however, the screen will be in operation during home games for those who weren't lucky enough to obtain one of the hottest selling tickets in town.
Per the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, team President David Morehouse had this to say about the fans: "The outdoor screen has been tremendously popular, but the demand from our fans has been so overwhelming that we decided to open the arena for the first two road games of the Finals. It's a way to create a 'game-like' atmosphere and enable even more fans to get together and watch the Penguins go for the Cup."
