Penguins Will Take Stanley Cup: The Golden Child Revisited

Michael FicorilliMay 22, 2008

Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins will win the Stanley Cup. You read it here and can take it to the bank.  As other hockey articles on Bleacher Report have stated, Commissioner Gary Bettman needs the sport to grow in North America. Here is a breakdown on how the Pens will win the ultimate prize:

* Of course, Sid (or "Cindy" as Flyers fans call him) will get every hooking call every time he touches the puck. A power play goal will ensue.

* Marc-Andre Fleury has only lost four games since the end of November, what makes anyone think that he will lose four of the next seven games?

* The Penguins are two inches and 13 pounds heavier on average than Detroit.  Not to mention that they are five years on average younger (32-27 avg. age).

* Marian Hossa is quite possibly the best backchecking forward since Mario Lemieux.

* Mario Lemieux is Sidney Crosby's landlord. (That means something doesn't it?)

* Mike Modano of the Dallas Stars is the only non-Canadian team captain of a Stanley Cup winning team. Over 100 years of tradition there. Niklas Lidstrom of Detroit is a Swede, Sid is from Nova Scotia, Canada.

* Sid had the game-winning shootout goal on New Years Day in Buffalo. If that wasn't a NBC storybook finish then you haven't seen anything yet.

* Michel Therrien can beat Mike Babcock's butt.

* Detroit doesn't have Bob Probert to fight Georges Laraque.

* Jordan Staal comes from the best playing NHL family since the Stastnys.

* Evgeni Malkin will be the greatest Russian hockey player in NHL history once he retires.

* The Pens have won their last 16 home games, meaning all they have to do is win one game out of three at Joe Louis Arena.

* Chris Chelios is a dinosaur and should be in a museum. The Pens are hoping that he logs a large amount of ice time.

* Gary Roberts doesn't do push ups when he works out, he pushes the earth up and down.

* Finally, Sid has set almost every record and won every possible award at the youngest age any NHLer has achieved previously. To win a Cup in only his 3rd season would beat the Great One by a year.

...need I say more? Yes, GO PENS
