6 Reasons Why Bama Will Have A Hard Time With Va Tech

Scotty BoyAug 31, 2009

Here's my six reasons why it won't be as easy as many Bama fans think:

1 Utes 31 Alabama 17. Last season, Alabama was embarrassed by “Whotah“. But, the preseason "pundits" have built Alabama WAY up to where they are supposed to finish near the top and maybe they will, but Alabama SHOULD remember the Utah game. Utah gave the Crimson Tide an ole fashioned “wood shed” beating.

2 Both Florida and “little tiny” Utah exposed weaknesses in Alabama. Namely, they had little pass protection. John Parker ran for his life in both games. I just watched replays for both and there were a whole lot of sacks and hurries by Utah and Florida.

Mauler LT Trophy winner Andre Smith is gone. New LT James Carpenter looked good as a pass blocker in the A-Day game, but over all, he's still a question mark.

3 Greg McElroy IS an untested QB. Mr. Durable, John Parker Wilson, started every game for 3 years. Although he looked good in the A-Day game, we know nothing about Greg’s durability and what he will do in the long run.

4 Saban is a great recruiter, but maybe not as good a pregame offensive strategist or "game day" coach as Va Tech’s Beamer, Urban Meyer or Utah’s Whittingham. Saban’s forte is defense.

5 RB Mark Ingram is not Glen Coffee talent wise. Mark Ingram runs like a power back. But, he’s not that hard to bring down (watch the replays) and he doesn't slice "down hill" like Mr Coffee. Maybe Ingram is Saban’s Michigan “pet“.

BTW, Coffee may start for the Niners. He had 130 yds. in a preseason game. Trent Richardson maybe a monster recruit, but he's still just an untried freshman.

6 Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer is a super special teams coach. They’ve blocked alot of punts over the years. If it’s close at the end, watch out.

As a Tide Fan, I hope they "finish" better this year like Saban preaches. But, beware of "foxy" Beamer's special team packages!
