What The "Heil- are-you-doin'-man"?

Mark MaroseAug 31, 2009

Building off a story posted by Tab Bamford regarding the current decision of the Cubs to retain both Heilman and Harden.

Tab couldn't be more right when he says:

"With regard to Heilman, the Cubs should have pulled the trigger to let him go for nothing the instant the Giants put the claim on him.  The spot in the Cubs bullpen should be given to a youngster looking to establish himself in the majors, like Jeff Stevens.  Experience for cheap, in-house options means more at this point than a veteran who can't get anyone out."

Heilman is making $1.625 million dollars to post a 4.40 ERA.  He has walked 31 in 59 1/3 innings and given up almost a hit per inning.  If the Giants wanted Heilman, give him to them.  No one would think the Cubs are throwing up the White Flag if they let this wasted roster spot go and fill it with another arm.

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that Hendry, in his infinite wisdom, tried to actually get talent back for this guy and that was why the deal fell through.  One has to wonder what is happening in the Cubs front office.

The Cubs have done nothing from the end of last season to now to suggest that they have any interest in winning.  They got rid of their club house leader in DeRosa for nothing, they brought in another wasted roster spot in Aaron Miles and god only knows what they were thinking when they signed M. Bradley.

Let's start by removing all Aaron's from the roster and let some kids play - off course that won't happen.  Too bad Hank isn't still available, now would be the time the Cubs would get him.

Some other notable Aaron's the Cubs can acquire:

Aaron Boone - after open-heart surgery

Aaron Rowand - after one too many collisions with a wall

Aaron Cook - coming off a shoulder problem

Aaron Harang – after losing his appendix and possibly his fastball

Here is an early request – can we make-up next years team with a Matt (Holliday not Stairs), Josh (Beckett not Fogg) and maybe throw-in a Mark (DeRosa not Kotsay or Pryor)?
