Zac Stacy Trade Rumors: Latest News and Speculation on Rams RB

Tyler ConwayApr 30, 2015

The St. Louis Rams shocked many Thursday night by selecting Georgia running back Todd Gurley with the No. 10 overall pick. Perhaps no one was more shocked than incumbent Zac Stacy, who tweeted his dismay and has begun searching for a way out of St. Louis. Ultimately, Stacy got his wish and was traded to the New York Jets on Saturday for the 224th pick in the NFL draft.

Jets Trade Pick for Stacy

Saturday, May 2

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Rams traded Stacy to New York for the 224th pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

The Jets were first linked to Stacy earlier in the day, when Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported that the team was interested in trading for the running back.

On May 1, Schefter reported the Rams would attempt to fulfill Stacy's trade request:

A fifth-round pick in 2013, Stacy rushed for 293 yards and one touchdown last season. He lost his starting job early in the campaign amid fumbling and effectiveness problems. Rookie Tre Mason went on to lead the Rams in rushing (765 yards) while Stacy became almost a complete non-factor in the second half of the season.

Stacy is just a year removed from a promising rookie campaign that saw him rush for 973 yards and seven touchdowns, however. While he's never going to be an explosive playmaker, Stacy would be a fine platoon back and worth a flier for a team looking to add depth.

As for the Rams' selection of Gurley, the jury is still out. It'll be interesting to see if Mason, who had a fine rookie year in his own right, is the next to tweet his way out of town.
